I thought right away when I heard Pluto singing Goodbye Girl it was a hit that I somehow missed back in the 80s.It has a catchy beat that has a fun feel like the music of old.

IMO, "The Strokes" have a sound very similar to some bands of the 80's. Like their song "Last Night".

Avril Lavigne's "Sk8er Boi" is very reminiscent of early 80s girl pop groups like The Go-Gos.

I don't like Moby, but "We Are All Made of Stars" struck me as a wonderful and beautiful return to the glory days of new wave.

Oh, and Buckcherry have a great Motley Crue/GnR Sunset Strip sleaze feel to them.

Using the name 1L, I make music that is very 80's inspired.  Uses only synths that were made in the 80's.  80's inspired beats, etc.

You can check some of it out at www.res-freq.com

There's the Canadian band Hot Hot Heat. Their singer sounds just like Robert Smith from the Cure.

I really don't think there's anyone out there right now that sounds anything like the 80s bands.  But then again, i typically avoid contemporary radio like the plague.  I read a little while back when they did a Headbanger's Ball "recap" that Rob Zombie is considered the front-man for hard rock/heavy metal's comeback.  Thought that was cool.

Now that you mention it, there is a similarity in style. I thought 'Complicated' was just ok but I much prefer 'Sk8er Boi' - and to top that off I'm a huge fan of the Go Go's.

Deadsy is very good.  They've got like a synthesized metal sound going.  Elijah Blue Allman (Cher's son) is the lead singer.

This band called "The Faint"...I don't know if any of you has heard of them but they sound pretty 80's-ish to me, especially synth-driven song "Worked Up So Sexual".
