I have a question to ask and hopefully it can  be answered. I 'm not very old but i am old enough to have enjoyed the eighties, but what i need to know is: the carpenters,karen carpenters song "close to you(they long to be". was redone and i believe it was redone during the 80's but i can be wrong maybe it was 90's but i know it was redone it was more upbeat then she did it it was probably r&b but can anyone please help me with this i use to listen to it all the time at my older cousins house i can not remember the name of the artist who did it,and unfortunately my cousin is not around to help me ..................please anyone this has been racking my brain............... :-/ :'(

You're probably thinking of Gwen Guthrie's cover of the Carpenters' "(They Long to Be) Close to You", a minor r&b hit here in the U.S. in the Winter of '87. (It failed to cross over to the pop chart.) It was off her 1986 album, Good to Go Lover. Unfortunately, the album is long out-of-print, although it did come out on CD here in the U.S...

I'll just mention that this song, like many other melodic classics, was written by Bacharach and David.
