C'mon, TB, you can't possibly mean that. ??? While I agree w/ you regarding the omission of NS, I think you need to take another look at the list:

17. Gary Moore (blues)

19. Stevie Ray Vaughan (blues)

36. Chuck Berry (early rock/r&b)

41. B.B. King (blues)

45. Billy Corgan (alternative - would fit well w/ the groups you named)

48. Billie Joe Armstrong (alternative - would fit well w/ the groups you named)

50. Noel Gallagher (alternative - would fit well w/ the groups you named)

52. Dave Grohl (alternative - would fit well w/ the groups you named)

59. Robert Johnson (early blues)

66. Paul Weller (new wave/alternative - would fit well w/ the groups you named)

75. Chet Atkins (country)

88. Johnny Ramone (punk/alternative - would fit well w/ the groups you named)

90. Peter Buck (alternative - would fit well w/ the groups you named)

95. Tom Verlaine (new wave/alternative - would fit well w/ the groups you named)

100. Nile Rodgers (r&b)

And those are just some of the exceptions to your "strictly Rock music" tag! I know you know better. :-) But that's not to say I think the list is perfect, either... ;)

Interesting list.  I've always believed that Elliot Eastin, the guitarist for the Cars, was a highly under-rated player.  He's has a remarkable sense of melody and a completely original style. His solos packed energy and color into virtually every Cars song.  IMHO, an innovator in pop rock guitar.  :-)

tom delonge being ranked so close to BB king does not seem anywhere near reasonable haha.

1. Jimi
2. Jimmy Page
3. Eddie Van Halen
4. Eric Clapton
5. Dave Gilmour
6. Slash

Wasn't Greg Macainsh a bass player?

I notice this was a readers' poll, so it was basically asking which guitarists are the best known/most popular/most influential, not actually the 'best' -- which would explain how Kurt Cobain and the guys from Korn got on the list in the first place. I wouldn't say any of them were particular hot guitar players. Same for Billy Joe Armstrong and the guy from Offspring. I find it interesting that Judas Priest's guitarists didn't make the list but all three of Iron Maiden's did. Oh yeah and Buck D'harma should be on there somewhere.

Yep yer right Jonman! he is a drummer

They should have added Rick Neilson from Cheap Trick! Anyone ever seen him play a double neck guitar? AMAZING!

Where is Tom Shultz from Boston? Now there is a Pioneer that should be in the top 20!

OMG they have Dimebag from Pantera on there? Who are they kidding???

At least Ritchie Blackmore is in there!

This list is shoddy at best

Another 'glaring omission':  ERIC JOHNSON

Subject: Re: Greatest Guitar Players?

Written By: V-MAX on 04/28/03 at 07:14 p.m.

One of my favorite guitarists, and probably the most under-rated, is Jake E. Lee when he was with Ozzy. Jake had a unique style and dang he could shred!

A few of my other favorites would be

Vinnie Vincent
Yngwie Malmsteen
Mark Kendall (he didn't shred but dang he had style!)
Randy Rhoads
Joe Satriani
Methias Jabs

and the guitarist for Millennium. If you ever heard the leads on Mellinium's "Angel fire" you would have to agree that that boy deserves much respect. He sounds like a cross between Jimmy Hendrix and Bach.

I cant believe Duane Allman is nowhere to be found???!!!

How the hell could they rate Pete Townshend below the Edge?? Im still a big U2 fan but I have to the Edge is a lame guitarist.  He couldnt possibly hope keep up with Townshend.  He doesnt have near the talent nor the energy.

Here is my list
1.  Jimi Hendrix
2.  Stevie Ray Vaughan
3.  Jimmy Page
4.  Pete Townshend
5.  Eddie Van Halen
6.  Duane Allman
7.  Ritchie Blackmore

Heck yeah!  He is friggin' brilliant!  I read an interview with him in "Guitar" magazine last year & not only is he an excellent guitar player, but he also comes up with all the ideas for their videos!  And if you have seen TOOL videos, you would know that they are the finest works of art to ever grace ANY music channel.

Actually Adam Jones is perhaps the least talented musician in TOOL, but considering how good the rest of them are, that's not really saying a lot.  :)

Lousy list IMO. Jeff Hanneman should not be behind Kerry King, let alone anyone from Korn.

I don't think anyone from Slayer should be on the list actually. Much as I like Slayer, I've never thought that King and Hanneman were exceptional guitar players. And Korn... well they're only there because they're popular, not because they're very good. In all honesty, I think Warren DeMartini and Vito Bratta should be there.

Findin' John Petrucci in the position 72 and Yngwie Malmsteen in the 34... under KURT Cobain, who is in pos. 14!!! Really, the people that vote in that poll probably has really a different concept than mine for judgin' what does it mean beeing a really good guitar player.... Forgive them, Jonh Petrucci, 'cause they don't know what they've done...
