Subject: ? 4 80's Music Geek: 1985

Written By: Java1035 on 08/29/02 at 03:40 a.m.

I need help finding out what this song is--it got some airplay on (mostly) top 40 stations in late 1985, is danceable, R&B-pop with a carribean flavor, quite up-tempo, male voice. The chorus goes something like...

"Ohhh-ohhh-ohhh-oh...
it's american suite...to the reggae beat"

The "breakdown" bridge has a bunch of guys chanting something like...

"Got to rub it down...rubba-dubba-dub it down...shake a rocket down...dubba-dubba-dub it down"

One of the verses says something like "in the morning I turn on my radio",
something-something "with an island beat".

WHAT IS THIS?? 95 Triple X in Burlington, VT (an FM top 40 station) used to play it back in November-December 1985.

HELP!

At first I thought you were talking about "Tarzan Boy" by Baltimora, because it has an "island" sound, but the lyrics are different.
