Subject: Name of Song from 1988-89

Written By: Dave on 10/08/02 at 11:25 a.m.

I need help looking for a song.  It was from 88-89.  It was a really soft mainly instrumental song sung by a female.  The   The singer mostly whispered.  Some of the words sounded like "falling in love"

Possibly it was the song by Miami Sound Machine "FALLING IN LOVE (Uh-Oh) Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine "

If not, give more details.  We'll try to sort it out.

If the singer was whispering, I doubt it.  Or am I remembering badly?

Thanks for the help so far.  It wasn't Miami Sound Machine.
Let me try to describe it better.  I didn't do a good job the first time:

The female singer sang really softly.  I never heard her raise her voice.  The only lyrics I can remember and I'm not even positive she even sang this but she sang it like:

"Falllllllllllllllliiiiiiiiing In Looooooooooooooove."

The song was a slow song and was really soft instrumentally.  No bass, no guitar, no band instruments.  I think they used a light organ, there was a string instrument too.

The song was a top 40 hit around 88-90.  I'm sure of i bc it got quite a bit of radio airplay.  It might have been a 1 hit wonder.  thanks!

Thanks, but that's not it.  The song only had the one femal singer and no backup singers or male singer for that matter.

Most of the instrumental music from the song would consist of 2 keynotes from the organ, then the string (or string sounding) instrument would kick in.

I am picturing the girl that did the theme to Twin Peaks - but its late and my mind is drawing a blank.

Julee Cruise. The theme song to the TV series "Twin Peaks" is called "Falling".

Dave, those "two notes"  you refer to actually sound like bass to me, but it's not "slappy" like bass often is. Much smoother - in line with the rest of the song.

"Don't let yourself be hurt this time...
Don't let yourself be hurt this time...
When I touch your face...
When I see your smile..."

Thanks Chris!

I just downloaded the song after reading your post. I never watched Twin Peaks but hearing that song again almost made me feel like I was back in high school.  Really wistful song.

I've got that song on a mix tape somewhere. It's good!

That's yet another one for the "Don't drive to this song late at night" category - zzzz...

Interestingly, Julee Cruise remade Cliff Richards' song "Wired For Sound" with an Australian female techno duo called Bi(f)tek. That was... interesting...
