Subject: 80's stars that have really AGED

Written By: Paul S. on 10/28/02 at 03:43 p.m.

I was watching a movie the other night called "The Monkey's Mask" and it featured Kelly McGillis, the woman who played Tom Cruise's love interest and flight instructor in "TOP GUN".  Darn she got old.  I mean she got OLD.  I checked her age on IMDB, and she would have been 43 when she made that film in 2000, but she looks 53 or 63 in it.  She was so young and hot in 1986.  Must be a heavy drinker and smoker.  Or just bad genes.

Some of these 80's stars have not aged well at all.  Ted Danson is another that looks awful.

Any others?

Hmmm.... I haven't got any nominations, but I'll guess the ones that have aged badly are the ones who haven't had plastic surgery, and the ones who've aged well have had surgery.

As always, Michael Jackson belongs in a category of his own.

Michael Douglas was still youthful and spry in the 80s and early 90s, but between The American President and Wonder Boys he just got OLD.

I don't know about Ted Danson.  I saw a picture of him at this year's Oscars and the only real difference I see is the gray hair.  Maybe I'm not seeing what everyone else is...  Kelly McGillis?  Well, she is 45, about the age Hollywood starts tossing starlets out like used kleenex.

I remember seeing Ted Danson in Cheers in 1982 looking like in his late 20's, Now I saw him on "Curb you enthusiasm" and he looks really old, but kinda like when he was on Cheers, but with like one of those episodes where they put on makeup to look really old.  He is now gray and semi-bald, while his counterpart Shelley Long doesn't look any older.  It's kinda funny, that on Cheers, he was known for being a young playboy, but now he looks like he could be my grandfather.

That's for sure!  I'd definitely agree!

Another bunch I think of is Def Leppard..at least Joe Elliot and Rick Savage!  I know they have lived pretty hard--but jeez!!  I can't believe the way we used to drool over them to look at them now!    :-[

I'm sure there are others, but that's all I can think of just now.

Kelly McGillis actually semi-retired from Hollywood lifestyle and has lived in Key West for many years, raising her kids and opening restaurants (she has at least two, possibly three, it's been a year since I've been there).  She is not a heavy drinker or smoker.

Talking about people who have not aged at all....Gary Coleman has been making the press junket rounds lately hosting a Battlebot.  He has kept his youthful looks.

Adam Ant looks awful!

And former babe Kelly LeBrock!

Man, I saw her on Fox News recently!  She looks nowhere near as hot as she once was.

Jeff Goldblum still looks great.  He has been around since the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's.

Grand Theft Auto Vice City is a video game drenched in 80's nostalgia.

They had 80's star Lee Majors do voice work for it, I think he still looks okay.

Anyone else???

And go see a great movie called HEY DJ!

Getting back to people who have aged badly...

MARTIN L. GORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you look at the luscious picture of him to the left and compare it with what he looks like these days...you can tell that he, unfortunately, has not aged gracefully. Although I think the hair has changed with age, and as long as he doesn't cut it too short at the top or slick it back, he still looks OK. :) I've forgiven him for flattening it. :D

MORRISSEY is another one who really isn't looking good these days. He, too, looks rather paunchy. He's also going bald, which is another bad thing since his hair (like Martin's) was very much a part of his image.

DEBORAH HARRY just looks awful. She just looks so washed up and worn out it isn't funny.

PETER GABRIEL is almost unrecognisable. Completely bald with a white, pointy, devil-like goatee. He's another one who looked really good in the 80's and then just got progressively worse and worse as time went on.

DURAN DURAN aren't as cute as they used to be. (Well, actually, I'll admit I haven't seen any recent pictures of them lately, but there was a time when they were getting old and fat.) John Taylor and Nick Rhodes were my biggest childhood heartthrobs and I was really disappointed to see them losing their looks, as well as seeing Simon LeBon developing a pot-belly.

MIKE SCORE (A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS) looks like a balding, old, fat truck driver. Well noted for his hair in the early 80's, only to have not much of it left these days, at least on top. I think he grew it long.

ROBERT SMITH (THE CURE) also looks rather paunchy these days, and he really needs to update his look. Unfortunately, he's another one I haven't seen any really recent pictures of, but still there's something about a 43-44 year old guy who still wears makeup. And his hair doesn't look like it used to either.

And finally...let's not forget the late MICHAEL HUTCHENCE (INXS). You can't look any worse than dead...

Nope, they don't look 20-25 anymore...yes, Roger & John both look like they could use an appointment with a razor...but for the most part, I think they all look pretty dang good :)

Vince Neil, IMO, is an example of someone who isnt aging well at all.  'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder', I rarely judge anyone by looks.  But seeing him on reality TV moves him to the bottom of my respect totem pole.  Another who comes to mind is Axl Rose -- not only is he not aging well, he seems to be having some sort of mid-life crisis, judging by the reports about his 'tour'.  No offense meant to fans of either one of 'em, just my opinions  :o

David Sylvian, Bernard Sumner, and Bryan Ferry have aged really well. The Pet Shop Boys too. Thing is is that whenever I go to a concert, it is not to see the band, but hear them (at least in the case of NewOrder and David Sylvian).

David Bowie looks alright too considering he was cranking out tunes since 1969. Definitely aged better than the Stones :)

OK, I stand corrected!! :) John, Nick and Simon look the best out of the five though. When I was commenting on Duran Duran, I was thinking back to around 1997 or so which was my last memory of them. Back to the recent photo though, Andy looks like another one who's joined the ranks of Liam Gallagher and Johnny Marr in their sort of "Britpop" look. Roger looks severely hungover. :D Not a bad picture, nonetheless! :)

This thread cracks me up!!  I  mean, come'on...you live the lives of some of these folks and you'll look like h*ll too!!  I can't imagine any reasonable person actually believing that time just stops and all of these folks from the 80's are going to look the same, or get better with age.  Sure, I would love it if David Coverdale still had the mane of hair and the whole package, but I saw a picture of him in a UK magazine this week and, yes he's aged, but that's life.

To be honest, I think everybody has "preserved" pretty well, given the sex drugs and rock and roll of the 80's.

i hope these links works... try cut/paste, if it doesn't i apologize, the site is paid so i always do a trick:
go to www.rexfeatures.com  type the name of the celeb you want to see. Then click the mouse right button on the thumbnail that you want to see larger. It will appear a menu with options, so click on 'properties' and them it will pop up a window, with an address url, copy that address and load in the browser. But instead of 'thumbs', sub for 'previews' so you get to see the full size pic. Sorry it's complicate  ::)

Pat Benatar still looks the same! Joan Jett is even prettier
Chrissie Hynde as well! Iggy Pop never changes, it's very impressive how he keep himself so fit (probably heroin hehe)

Blondie aged a bit.. i agree. But i guess partly it's because she put on a bit of weight, she is so tiny that it can make a big difference. Kim Wilde is looking a bit old too, but maybe it was the make-up she was wearing in her most recent pics that i saw from rexfeatures.

I guess the people that got older faster were those that left the music scene for a while. I mean the big stars like Madonna are still looking good (probably surgeries, botox and a liters of formol, that stuff to preserve corpses)

Martin Gore is looking a bit old but what about Alan Wilder??? scary  :o

You're right about Morrissey, maybe was his vegetarian diet that made him lose his hair? i have a friend that is vegan and he is half bald now, only 23 years old. I was vegan for 5 years and became anemic and developed celiac sprue (gluten found in wheat /rye/oats/barley and dairy/nuts allergies.). But since i resumed my diet and eat fish now my hair is thicker than ever, it was falling in bunches... anyway I disgress :)

The guys from Duran Duran aren't as hot as before, i admit. I saw Simon Le Bon and Nick Rhodes pics on rexfeatures and was a bit shocked. I mean, they are still ok, but i still have their great looks from the eighties. John Taylor put on a bit of weight, but it's still looking good compared to the others.

The guy from A flock of seagulls got bald? LOL years of hairspray and glue heheh! I read once that started music because he failed as hairdresser.

Robert Smith should retire, seriously. I saw him last year on the Arvika Festival in sweden and i nearly cried. It was embarassing. His hair just look wet, not cool like few years ago... and he has that 2 days beard, he should shave himself often if he still wanna wear make-up.

Now about the INXS guy.. lol, that was funny! hehe

HEY! Aimee Mann from Til' Tuesday still looks awesome! reminds me of Daryl Hannah

You can't look any worse than dead...

re. the discussion of Michael J Fox. You might be interested to know that he's written a very good book about his life. It's called Lucky Man. He read it himself on BBC Radio here in the UK and I subsequently bought the book and read it for myself. He's a very, very good writer. If he hadn't gone into acting, I'm sure he could have earned a good living from writing. The book is both funny and moving. He explains that he's lived with Parkinson's for many years and was suffereing quite badly when he was still doing TV shows. However, he uses drugs to control the symptoms (very effectively). These days he frequently appears on TV without medication so that people can appreciate the effects of Parkinsons. Michael campaigns for research into the disease. My aunt has bipolar disorder and I watched how some of her medications had side effects that caused her to gain weight, loosen her teeth, break out in acne and lots of other things.  Finally, her doctors found medicine that worked well for her and she looks and feels great these days.

Now Robert Smith, last year on Arvika gig. His hair was not big like in the old times, it wasn't all wet, but it got uglier and uglier throughout the gig, because he got sweat. Someone posted that Ted Danson looks bad.

I disagree!

I saw him at the play The Producers last month.  He walked out of the VIP men's room.

He looks great.  Fit, tan, well dressed in a gray suit, white shirt, no tie, dignified black frame glasses, a big mane of silvery hair.  He has used to have a bald spot, no more, he either combed it over or got a few implants, the hair looked great...so did he.

This was at the Pantages Theater on a Wednesday.

The Producers is a great musical!

Now robert smith, hopefully he will start shaving more often, if he wanna still wear make-up. The only problem of the hair is that it was just like the album Disintegration as soon as he started to sweat. He put on a lot of weight, i'm not sure it was only from meat! i'd say, toooo many Krispy Donuts, Hungry Man frozen dinner, tons of regular soda, chocolates and no exercise? not sure!
He still sang great as always, though, so i forgive him, LOL

Oh yeah!

Mike Reno!  Lead singer of Loverboy!

Check his fat ass out:

http://www.lexandterry.com/photos-mike-reno/ photos-mike-reno.html

And Ann Wilson of Heart!

She and Mike did that song Almost Paradise, right?

I could not stand that dopey song!  The two fattest rock stars did a duet! HA HA HA!!!

I love laughing at these dumb washed up celebs!  They crack me up.  It will be nice to see a bozo like Justin Timberlake as washed up as Mike Reno is someday!

Ann Wilson has shed a few pounds.  Good for her.

She has a ways to go!

WOW--  this topic has really evolved.  We've gone from "let's discuss who is the most pathetically-looking old fart," to how fat people have become.

It's sad we just can't remember the great music that these people gave us.

hehehe, Ringer u crack me up!  I heard Cristine Agulera was chubbing out.  Anyone remember poor Wendy O'Williams of the Plasmatics, what happened to her?  She was a hot porn star with an unbelievable body in the early 80s, but in about '91 she became a hag and died.  anyone know the story?

"Wendy commited suicide the 7th of April 1998, due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. After the plasmatics splitted she worked as caretaker for injured animials and dealt with depression for much of her later years."

mike reno still cracks me up, poor fatso!  go on the atkins diet!

appreciate the great music these people gave us?  you are kidding right?

loverboy was ok, but i'd never call them great.  Heart is great in many rock fans opinions.

They don't do much for me.  But at least they had some longevity.

It just amuses me how people who make moolah looking great let themselves goto hell.

And hey, STEVEN SEAGAL started in the 80's.  He looks all bald and fat now!

With a horrible toupee!

Poor guy!

His movies all go straight to video now!  Even Stallone's film Eye See You went straight to video!

but in her later years, yuck!  man was she skanky!  not even skanky in an attractive way, just gross.

and she shoots herself!?  what a dope.  she coulda formed a new version of the plasmatics.

or did some safe sex porn movies.  who knows, baby?

i remember her film reform school girls...that was schlocky but kinda campy and funny...

she was kinda hot in that...

she put on at least 20lbs, she piled on the pounds. I think she still look good, she dyed her hair black too. I was kinda shocked to see her video and her new pics... her manager /staff gave the most stupid excuse that she is 'more voluptuous' now because she had to go on a carbo load due the extrenuous dance sessions in her upcoming long tour. yeah right! she has no muscles... just got fat all over her body. In my mind i think they are hiding some sort of disease she is going through, the kind of disease where you need to be on  steroids/cortisone, thus the very quick weight gain. it happened in few months, from september last year then she balooned. She always been thin, mainly when she was a kid! I hope she is ok... but you know the sad thing... people complained that she was too skinny. Now they say that she is so fat... In spite that she has no visible muscles (i think that's kinda good, you know like britney or shakira) she still looks good.

Some quotes:

#Now all grown up, Aguilera will take the stage during the tour for some Dirty dancing to show off her voluptuous new figure, a stark contrast to the super-skinny look she had in many of her earlier videos. ''I love my curves,'' she unapologetically tells Rolling Stone in the June 26 issue."

"opened up about her recent weight gain. "Before they were saying I was too skinny and now I've got hips," she said. "I have no problem with it - it's part of my Latina side, but what are my girl fans supposed to think when I'm being slammed for having a little bit of thigh? My body changed while I was out of the public eye making 'Stripped'. But when a girl gains weight it becomes a big deal but when a guy does it, it's okay. He can be the sexiest guy out there, but he doesn't really have to be in shape or anything."

WENN reports Christina Aguilera is disheartened by negative publicity her recent weight gain has prompted. "It's really sad that young girls are getting eating disorders, but now that I'm getting slammed for putting on weight, what kind of message are they going to get," she asked. "Once I start touring again, I'll end up losing weight. Then I'll be criticized for being too thin again." Read more.

InTouch magazine has a story this week on Christina Aguilera's noticeable weight gain. Her trainger Ashley Borden says it's all part of a plan for the singer ahead of her tour with *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake. "This is the first time in her life she's considered nutrition," Borden said. "We started incorportating better so Christina has more stamina when she's dancing." While the weight gain has led to a lot of talk, Aguilera is happy with her new look. "I like being thick," she said. When the singer looks in the mirror, she says, "I see myself, a girl who is more comfortable in her skin than ever before."

Star magazine has a partial explanation at least for Christina Aguilera's shock weight gain, which backs up the second most popular response on popdirt.com's current poll. The singer was spotted at midnight with her bodyguard at Mel's Diner on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles devouring a burger and fries while sipping a coke. "She definitely wasn't picking at her food," a source blabbed. "She seemed ravenous!"

New photos have emerged showing Christina Aguilera has packed on even more pounds. The picture caption says, "Christina was hesitant about showing off her curvy figure in her new video."

Popdirt.com's latest survey asking what you thought caused Christina Aguilera's weight gain had the highest percentage voting for the singer's hard partying lifestyle, getting 29.1% of the vote. Next up was overeating, getting 23.1%. Aguilera's trainer gave the official explanation of a planned weight gain ahead of her tour, but only 13.9% thought that was true. Cast members from Full House that are aging nicely:

John Stamos.... Have you seen this guy recently on the 180 comertials for phone services? He looks great!  :o It's like he never aged a day in his life. (played Uncle Jesse)

Candice Cameron.... Have you seen her lately on E! Childhood stars of the '80s and VH-1's I Love the '80s? She looks great for her late 20s. (played D.J. Tanner)

Jodie Sweeden.... Have you seen her recently on E! Childhood Stars of the '80s? She's only a year older than me, and looks like a super model  :o Kudos to you Jodie! (played Stephanie Tanner)

Olson twins: Mary Kate & Ashley.... After Full House they looked kinda weird b/c they were going through puberty. But afterwards, they look really nice. (both played Michelle Tanner.... Must have been hard for them to share a character together)

Full House Cast Members that have aged poorly:

Bob Saggot.... Have you seen him on his new show on the WB? Man he sure has aged!  :o maybe it's the haircut or something. (played Danny Tanner.... Who here agrees that he was the best host on American Funniest Home Videos?)

Other stars that have aged:

Bill Murray.... Believe it or not I used to have a huge crush on him when I was four years old after seeing him as Peter Vankman in Ghostbusters. Have you seen him reasently? He's got white hair and lots of wrinkles!  :o

Another Ghostbuster member that has aged is Dan Akroid. Have you seen him in his come-back eps on SNL?  :o He's a bit fatter, has lots of wrinkles, and an bald spot in the back of his head.

Another Ghostbuster member that has aged is Harald Ramous. Have you seen him in his cammeo apperance in As Good as it Gets?  :o  My lord, he's gotten fat!  :o plus wrinkle city.
If you want to watch something depressing, watch Stripes, Ghostbusters I and II and then watch As Good as it Gets. The man has aged tremendously!  :o

Another '80s star that has aged poorly is Tom Hanks!
Watch Splash and Big. Then watch Forest Gump and Apollo 13. After that watch Cast Away and Catch me if you Can. You could watch him age right before your eyes!  :o If you don't agree that he's not aging bad, look at his new pic on moviedatabase.com
You could have sworn you were looking at a pic of Billy Joel!

Also Carrie Fisher from Star Wars... YIKES!!  :o :o :o
voice still sounds the same but her looks  :P
