A U2 story:
I was on my way back from the Mojave desert with my Army unit after completing a 45 day rigorous training exercise when our bus pulled into an all night gas station/Convienent Mart.  A strange all black bus pulled up along side of our bus.

All the rest of the soldiers went into the store leaving me and a couple of other soldiers to guard the equipment and weapons so that others could stretch, smoke and get pogey bait.
I didn't take much attention to that all black and blacked out windows of the bus, all I did was stand guard inside with my M-16 rifle at port arms.

As the other soldiers started coming back to our bus, they murmurred, "You know who's in that store right now"!
No I said, who?
It's the band U2. There all in there munching out and buying stuff, "they said"!
What are they doing here, out here in the desert, 200 miles from nowhere!
There on there way, somewhere in Arizona to continue there tour out west here.

We all looked pretty beat up and scruffy, like we had been living in the field for quite some time and hadn't seen much civilization in a while, which we hadn't!

I walked outside the bus, lit up a cigarette and just leaned against the bus, with that cigarette hanging out of my mouth, when three or four band members walked passed me and gave me the thumbs up.

That was an awe inspiring site if there ever was one for me, and I'll never forget it.
Everytime I listen to U2, I remember the song, " I still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For".
U2 definetly was a band of the 80's and 90's.

Do you have any encounters with idols like that you would like to share? Please post them.

Unfortuantely, I don't have any stories to tell but I could always make up one.   ;)

I wish I were in your shoes that evening though.  I am a big fan of U2.  I think they are a great band.

This actually happened in '91, but... I went and saw The Cure during their Wish tour down at Huntington Beach arena. The next week my friends came up from Arizona and we all went to Disneyland. Shortly before we were about to leave, I was sitting in front of Cinderella's castle waiting for my friends to regroup. One of the attendents working saw my Cure shirt and mentioned that The Cure was roaming around Disneyland, and that they had just walked up to the Matterhorn. So I promptly dashed off just as my friends were arriving. Managed to meet them about five minutes before the parked closed... too cool. :)
