Subject: Most Hated 80's TV shows...

Written By: 80sRocked on 10/29/02 at 12:56 a.m.

We know what our favorite 80's shows were, so what are your Most Hated 80's Shows?

Taking the Top Spot on my List is:

The dreaded knightmare aka "Full House"

The Olson twins lost their cuteness/funnyness after Day 1!  From then on, I just couldn't stomach that show.

So, what are your picks?

Mama's Family
Charles in Charge
Amen
One Day at a Time
Too Close for Comfort
Gimmie a Break
Small Wonder

I've never liked any of these shows.  And I hate it when they are all that is playing on late night reruns.

It's hard to say I outright hated any show, but it's no secret by now that I despise(d) Geraldo Rivera, so his show was obviously not on the top of my Favorites list.

I'll try to think of some others I didn't like.

I've always thought of Bob Saget as the most "UN-funniest" guy ever.

I can't believe he did "America's Funniest Videos" as long as he did.  :P

But that was 1990, So I'll end it there.

Most Hated 80's TV shows:

Full House
The New Monkees (How dared they)
Alf

I turned acid on MASH after HotLips went nice.  I don't remember what season it happened in, but she had a "breakdown" episode, a lot of "hug" scenes, and  she was cuddly from then on.  Then Alan Alda found feminism and MASH went preachy PC.  It was a black year in television history.

They weren't that perfect...I mean, D.J. had boy problems, Danny was overprotective and obsessive compulsive, Jesse had a hair fetish, the middle sister (blanked!) needed braces, the Olsen Twins epitomized evil...need I go on?

That said, that show totally rubbed me the wrong way.

I didn't like Webster either

The actor who played him (Emmanuel Lewis, was it?) was way older in real life and I just really thought it was stupid.

I am surprised how many younger kids of today think the Olsens are the greatest thing since sliced bread.  I have 2 young nieces that never watched Full House(weren't born yet), but only know the Olsen Twins from their recent movies and videos, and they think they're great.  I have to leave the room whenever they have an Olsen Twins tape on, it is unbearable!

And have you ever heard them try to sing?  WOW, talk about ear-piercing pain!

Like I predicted 5 years ago about Ashley & Mary-Kate: "About 10 years from now, their videotapes will start to get 'interesting'." Well, it's 5 years now, and they're already starting to act like teen jailbaits. I shudder to think what will happen in another 5 years.
Oh, why stop now? I will close by sharing another thing that went through my mind about them in '97: "I am against abortion, except in the cases of Ashley and Mary-Kate".

I used to think the exact same thing.  I don't meant to sound like a pedophile, but back around 1994-'98, when the Olsen Twins would to this kid videos, I would look at the covers of those videos and think, "hey not bad looking chicks", and then when I realized how young they were---"holy c**p!  They're only 11!!?".  But I knew that as they got older, they would become objects of lust and everyone would speculate if they would pose for Playboy or Hustler.

I think they will do a porno spread, just to change their image and shock people.  Drew Barrymore and Britney Spears both did shocking things to shed their good girl image.  Drew flashed David Letterman when she was like 19 or something back in 1995.  And a couple of years ago, Britney did her MTV striptease.

Mary Kate and Ashley are looking less and less like Monkey Girls lately. They really were homely if you looked at them closely a few years ago.  I stopped watching most TV in mid eighties, I worked nights or on ships in Alakska for year, best I could say is that there has been much more crab than there has been good.

Anyone else remember the spinoff of The Jeffersons (or was it just starring the same people?) 227?

Also the Loni Anderson short lived Easy Street (she was rich and found her homeless father and his Black friend and they lived with her...).

I am also dying to know if anyone else watched the show "Lottery."  These two guys would go door to door every week and hand people money and the show would focus on how the lives were changed by the money.

Oh, and any show starring Ann Jillian.  One where she was a ghost haunting a house (sitcom) and the other with Crystal Bernard of Wings where they waited tables in skimpy Playbunny-esque dresses.

I didn't care much 1 way or other about Full House (I still could lust after that blonde brother, though!); I didn't like it but not cuz it's too "nice".  But, I really decided I don't like Saget when seeing that AFV.  I'm sure he's nice, but he stinks at comedy.  I don't like his demeanor w/the AFV show.  So between him, and the hokieness of the videos sent in (like after the 1st season?  stupid set-up videos), I stopped watching that altogether.

Moonlighting - hate that woman.
Cheers - an OK show and I watched a bit for sure, but way overrated like you say.  What's the big deal?  Maybe all the losers in the world just identify w/it.  Didn't like that pretend-smart bimbo in the 1st part, and Rebecca later on (liked initially) just got bimboyer and screechier.  (Sorry for the bad, bad English!)

How about "Head of the Class". This stupid ass show is on Nick at Nite and I dont know why. The show, the jokes, the actors, everything about it is stupid. That teacher should have stayed on WKRP in Cinncinati.

I also agree with Cheers being overrated. I never understood why this show was so popular, although when it was on in the 80's I was a teen and it was more of an adult humor show. Woody Harrelson was pretty funny but thats about it.

Uh, Howard Hesseman couldn't very well have stayed on WKRP.  The show was cancelled years before Head of the Class even went on the air.  Perhaps the show's stupidity was "contagious."

Not to pick on you, but I believe this thread is about "Most Hated" not "Most Overrated."  Cheers was a groundbreaking show in many ways, and remains a classic.  Even if it wasn't your cup of tea, I can't believe some of you people mention it in the same thread as truly lame sitcoms like "Full House" and "ALF."

Anyway, like you said, the adult humor mostly went over your head.

And your right it is "Most Hated" shows of the 80's and not overrated, so Cheers was one of my "Most Hated" shows. And if it is a most hated show then it should be mentioned with other stupid shows like Full House. They go good together as far as Im concerned. And I didnt say the adult humor went over my head, I just said it was adult humor and I didnt find it funny. A lot of stinkers on this list, but Roseanne? Come now.  Even if you couldn't stand the woman, that show was also groundbreaking and highly regarded until its last season or two in the mid-90s when it just imploded because of her huge ego.  I'm certain that her show would be at the top of the list of favorite shows of the 80s, too.  Roseanne is just that polarizing a figure.

And Fawlty Towers?  John Cleese was and is a comic genius, and that show, although English, is also very highly regarded by those in the know here in America.
