Type in "california cuisine" in a search engine and see what that pulls up.

Is this like meal type foods or snack type foods?  There were various candies that were big: Certs (various flavors, cinnamon was the best), Nerds, Lik-Um Sticks, Pixie Sticks....

Other foods that gained popularity include sushi and California (see previous post).

"Foods" is pretty generic.  If you can narrow it down any it would get better answers.

As far as the recipe, I don't remember but I always loved to make Rice Krispies Treats.  I know it was easy...Rice Krispies, marshmallows and butter.

Don't forget that Fondue was still quite popular at that time.  We'd have it at least once every couple weeks.  We had an electric fondue pot, as well as the kind you'd heat up with a can of Sterno.
