Atomic Kitten's version of "The Tide Is High" is currently Top 10 in Oz, complete with crappy dancing video.

it makes me cringe every time i hear it on the radio..i just hate the way they sing those stupid dramatic pauses..

'every girl wants you to be (dramatic pause)-her man'

I can just picture the stupid hand movements and stupid looks that accompany it in the video! (haven't seen it myself)

If I were Debbie Harry, I'd fly over and slap them silly  :P

They're 'stupid lyrics' style resembles that of Red Hot Chili Pepper lyrics, especially songs off 'By The Way'.

Rapture is great though - it's the dumb lyrics that make it cool! I can recall every word  of the 'rap', beacuse it's so stupid! Hmm, lets see ... ;D

...go out to the parking lot
and you drive all night
and you see a light
and it comes right down
and lands on the ground
and out comes teh man from mars
and you try to run
but he's got a gun
and he shoots you dead
and he eats your head
and now you're in the man from mars
you go out at night, eating cars
you eat cadillacs, lincolns too
mercurys and subaru
and you don't stop
you keep on eating cars
then when there's no more cars
you go out at night
and eat up bars
where the people meet
face to face, dance cheek to cheek... ok I will stop now :P

Blondie were pretty good. My dad loved Debbie Harry.

My favourites are . . .

Island of lost souls (catchy as heck)
The Tide is high (classy - obviously better than Atomic Kitten's version. They inexplicably tacked on a 'when you get this feeling' bit as well.)
Denis (Great!)

Anyone remember Debbie Harry's solo hit 'I want that man' in 1989? I love that song so much.  :D

Oh I love Blondie, I liked Maria.  My favs are Tide is High and Call Me.  I even liked Rapture just because it was Blondie.  I remember getting gum in that looked like a LP in a small record cover case.  I always got Blondie! ;)

I'm sorry to say but I didnt care for Atomic Kitten singing Blondie.  They did not do it justice.
It seems that it's so easy to be a #1 hit in England.
There are many one hit artists, and even more that like to do remakes.  Anyone can be a 'pop' star there.

Music, in Britain at least, appears to be a throw-away art form these days. Westlife, A1, Atomic Kitten (who were promising initially) have all made their money and fame off someone else's music. I get the impression that they think the paying public are so stupid, that they are not aware that the songs they are listening to have been made (and mainly made better) before.

However, back to the thread, yes Sasha, I believe that Atomic Kitten butchered Blondie's version. It had no soul and the girls tacked on a wierd 'when you get this feeling' chorus to it for no good reason at all.
