Subject: 80's Junk

Written By: Indy Gent on 11/03/02 at 11:04 p.m.

What was your favorite memento or souvenier that you kept to remind yourself of the 80s? A picture of you with a cardboard President Reagan or Tom Selleck (like my mom did)? How about a toy or book you purchased in the 80s? Or a cheesy video? What made you think about the 80s?

I have an old Alf doll that I got from my mom for Chrismas as a joke. I still have it and wouldn't let it go for anything.

I have a huge scrapbook full of every Duran Duran article, clipping...and anything I could find on them.  It is about 6 inches thick and weighs about 10 pounds!!!

I had a feeling you might say that....but no...I have made plenty of room for it.... ;)

I consider it a prized possession!!  I cannot begin to tell you how many overseas magazines I sent for just to have the articles.   ;D

Good Girl! :)

I'm glad to "see" you say that because I find it quite sad when people decide to rid themselves of such nostalgic treasures.

I still have my old Rubik's Cube. I also kept my black and white checkerboard Vans, in mint condition. All of my old vinyl 45s, LPs and cassette tapes are in safe storage. I've also kept all my old copies of Star Hits magazines. :)

I still have a Rubik's Cube too, but it's up in my attic for some 10 years.  So it's not around to remind me much.

I don't keep anything deliberately for purposes of remembrance, but I do still have - and now will hang on deliberately - 1 of my favorite outfits from then which hangs in my closet.  Forenza bright yellow w/white print jacket and skirt.  It was on the formal side of casual so that's why it's still around I guess.  More-casual stuff wore out eventually.  This outfit still looks good - I wore it enough but not like the everyday clothes.

I have an acid-washed jean jacket and one outfit I used to wear when I played in the clubs...gawd, I'd never wear it now....even if I could still get into it LOL...I also have all my 45s and LPs and cassettes...I did get rid of all my scrapbooks of articles on Bon Jovi...I kept all my ticket stubs and concert memorabilia though...tossed the mag articles and paper clippings except the reviews of shows I was at...

I think if I were to pull something from my 'boxes' that would most remind me of the 80's it would be my Michael Jackson things... (i.e. doll, glittery socks, the glove, cassette tapes, folders, my watch)  I was a BIG fan ..lol....
