Subject: Tips for locating 80's (and other old) music

Written By: aikidoka on 11/05/02 at 03:12 p.m.

I just thought I'd post a tip here for finding old music.

What I normally do is use Google search...and type a section of distinctive lyrics plus the word lyrics.  I usually take a piece of paper and jot down any lyric phrases I remember...trying to find things that are distinctive. ::)

I've also narrowed my search by putting things like 80's, etc.

I often do this with a window open to CDNow so that I can go "test" possibles for being the right song by listening to clips there.

Also, once you DO find something you were looking for, try putting the song name, artist name or record label name (if it is no longer around) and you'll likely find all sorts of music that came out around the same time, etc.

Good luck and happy hunting to all.

aiki

I go to:

http://www.allmusic.com

Allmusic.com has detailed information on all late 20th century music of the 80s and 90s, and the current music.  It has stuff on the 50s-70s as well.

I also go to KaZaa to download music.

I really liked Audio Galaxy before it was shut down, but I use WinMx mostly these days. My partner preferrs Kazaa, but that's just because he likes to be different and do the opposite of me. lol
We have about 2000 mp3s in our collection. I just never get around to putting them onto CDs
