I've never had the joy of listening to an all 1980's-music station, but I once had an all-1970's station in my town and they never played the 1970's songs I remember!

A little while ago, here in Denver, we had an all 80s station that played the whole variety.  Nina Blackwood was even one of the DJs!!!   But now they went out of business/got bought out by someone.  They are now a crappy Spanish station.  Well it was paradise for a little while at least.

We had a station that went totally 80's about a year ago.  Gradually they started mixing in stuff from today.  Now it is a crappy todays music channel with a little Duran Duran thrown in so they can say music from the 80's.  >:(

In addition to WPLJ in NY playing songs from the 80's... there's also WFAS (103.9 FM) based out of White Plains, NY.  They have a weekday 80's show at Noon, and a Friday night 80's show from 5PM to 1AM.

I am sorry, but I am glad they don't play some of the artists you mentioned, just because it is an 80's artist doesn't make a song automatically good.  I call it: The Tiffany Effect (Liking an artist that sucks just because they were popular when you were the right age to like them, or liking an artist that sucks just because they were popular in the eighties)

When I djed, I played Poison, Lita Ford, Paula Abdul, and Debbie Gibson from time to time. I might have played Samantha Fox once... Didn't have any Vixeon or New Edition, and I detest the New Kids, though I think I might have actually played something by them once just to irk some people. :)

Same here. A long-time classic rock station changed to "All 80s" a couple of years ago. Not long afterwards they became "The 80s and MORE", and now they're "The Best of the 80s, 90s and Today".

Oh well. The up side is that now I'm not completely in the dark as to what's going on in contemporary music. :)

Here in WI, we have a station that plays 80's on weekends only, and they play it all.  Then again I have one too many cd's of 80's hits that the radio is un-necessary...lol...

Yes, I listen to WPLJ (I'm in N.J.), and while they to play a lot of the 80's "hits", they never play the really cool, more obsure stuff that I love (a lot of the "new romantics" stuff).  We used to have a great mostly 80's station down the Jersey shore, but they changed format, and now are just alternative hits.

There's a great station out of Philadelphia, though, called "The Point". It's all 80's, and generally a good format, but again, they tend to replay all of the "hits".

Maybe it's because the djs are too young to have lived through and accurately remember the 1980's, thus, only relying on the infamous top 40.  ::) :P :-/

Another explanation could be a general restriction of some sort. I'll never figure it out. Perhaps some of you could try calling one of these alleged 80's stations and ask!  :D
I no longer listent to the radio.

That might work, but I know of radio stations that, for some reason, won't admit to the public that they use play lists. I guess they want to maintain the illusion that the DJs play whatever the spirit moves them to play.  ::)

What irritates me is that most radio stations only play certain songs from the 80's. Like, if they play Tears for Fears, it will probably be "Shout" or "Everybody Wants to Rule the World." But what about "Mad World" or "Change" from their previous album, "The Hurting"? Those got radio play then, but now it's like they never existed.

And I could do without ever hearing "I Melt with You" or "Come on Eileen" again.

I used to listen to WPLJ when I was living in up-state NY. That was in the 80s (well, early 80s) so naturally, they played 80s music.

my local 80s Station is Z100 Providence. they play most 80s songs but some of them they play a lot and other ones they play only now and then I also wish they would play some other songs that they don't play.
