Subject: 80's kids book show

Written By: spacejazz on 11/15/02 at 11:24 p.m.

Hey y'all.  Do any of you remember a kids tv show, which was on pbs i believe, that had this guy with moustache drawing a story as someone read it.  no actual animation, the camera would just pan across the scenes he was drawing.  he'd talk about the book a little before he did it i think.  all i know is that he once did the scene from "a wrinkle in time" where they go and talk to the man with glowing red eyes.  this freaked me out.

please tell me if you remember the name of this show.  if this is actually from the late 70's, i apologize ahead of time to all 80's folk.  thanks!

This was one of the 15-minute educational shows running on PBS stations to show in schools. I don't know when his shows started, but I do remember watching them in my 6th grade class, 1980-81. The man's name is John Robbins.
I happen to be the kind of dork who actually watches these shows on TV in my home for entertainment value, and this is what I have discovered:
He seemed to have had a new show with a slightly different title every year or 2 during the 80's. Mostly, they have "Books from Cover to Cover" in the title. ("Books from Cover to Cover", "More Books from Cover to Cover", etc.) He was even the host of a math show called "Math Works".
Just remember kids, if you want to know how the story ends... check it out at your local library.

PS: I have a separate 80's post about 15-minute educational shows. It's so many pages back now that I personally wouldn't suggest going back to try to find it, but if you're reeeally brave...  :-/
