Rock on, John.  You're still at that age where it's socially acceptable for you to hit on the Olsen Twins.  My time is over, but you still have time...act now!  Make us proud!  ;D

Well, I wrote a list of stuff on the 1980 post, and now I'll try to give you some things about 1985.

The year I totally lost interest in WWF wrestling and started loving NWA wrestling

The year I became a "Guiding Light" fan (That is, until 1987, when it stopped being interesting to me. Come to think of it, the same thing happened with my NWA wrestling watching.)

"Alice", "The Jeffersons", and "Dukes of Hazzard" were cancelled

"I Want to Know What Love Is" was the 1st new rock song I heard that year.

Standup comedy started taking off as it hasn't done before.

Whitney Houston was a new name on the scene

"Jem" and "She-ra" began

The slew of game shows such as "Headline Chasers", the new "Nighttime Price is Right" with Tom Kennedy, "New Newlywed Game", new "Break the Bank" with Gene Rayburn - gosh, it's starting to amaze me how much of these shows were new versions of older shows. Also, the year "Tic Tac Dough" went to heck because Wink Martindale left (to host "Headline Chasers"). The year Johnny Olsen died.

The year Ricky Nelson was killed in a plane crash.

Casio and Yamaha keyboards were starting to get better than they have been in the past

"Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n' Wrestling" cartoon show

The "Space Shuttle" pinball machine came along with its revolutionary-at-the-time "million point bonus". (Nowadays, multi-million point scores are commonplace in pinball machines, which makes this not such a big deal anymore).

Those are some of the things I can think of about 1985 right now.

In 1985 I discovered a mix show on the radio called HOT MIX - I was intrigued by the extended/alternate versions of songs they played, and this was the first time I recall hearing songs "beatmixed" together.  That summer I bought my first 12-inch single at musicland, Paul Hardcastle's "19."  At this point I was making my own remixes of singles on cassette using my somewhat-skilled tape edit techniques.  Later that year I rigged a turntable and tape deck to my boom box and taught myself how to beat mix by letting a song on tape run and dropping the needle on a record.  I didn't get my first mixer (Radio Shack) until '87 and by that time my skills had greatly improved...

Oh yeah, my parents' divorce was final in 1985 and my mom moved us into another home which was closer to the jr. high school I was going to (which I hated; didn't like some of my fellow students who were mean to me) yet I had to be bussed to the other jr. high in the district (which I liked because I was an upperclassman and no one messed with me).

Do you mean that the network syndication of these shows was cancelled? Surely the production of these shows was cancelled well before 1985, huh? Or is my memory fried from too much "Joust" in the 80s? :)

Ahh...1985!  One of my favorite years and, for me, the last 'honest-to-goodness' year of the 80's.  Things started to get serious after that.

I was amazed when I found out that Paul Hardcastle had done "19". I downloaded that song about a year ago because I remembered hearing it like 20 years ago. I didn't know who did it then but I thought it was a cool song.
I didn't get into Paul Hardcastle until just the last few years when I heard some cool stuff off of "Hardcastle II" and bought the CD.

:-*  1985 was a good year. I cut my hair for the first time, and began high school that fall. It's one of my favorite years of the decade.

1985 was a pretty good year too, but the small changes within the decade leading to the last half/end were already visible. :-/ The first I noticed was the parting of ways for the original line-up of Duran Duran.

The music was very much kick@ss until the end of 1989. It's just that I remember how the "New Romantic" genre, awesomely great in the first half of the decade, was beginning to fade into the "Alternative" and "New Age" realm.

1984 was the best year in the 1980's, in my opinion :)

You could have Duran Duran, Human League, The Thompson Twins, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister and Van Halen (David Lee Roth) on the same playlist!!! :D

The mid-80's were a time when different types of music were on the same chart. From Quiet Riot and Bryan Adams to Lionel Richie and Atlantic Starr. You couldn't beat the variety back then

Burger King had an ongoing promotion of "Where's Herb?". They kept mentioning him in their commercials, until they finally revealed him.

I vaguely remeber the "Where's Herb" marketing strategy, I'm sure someone must have lost a big account over that one, very stupid and I know of one that got excited about it.  If I remember correctly Herb ended up being some middle aged dork.

Now I'm starting to remember the promotion. Was this the lead-up to that "grown-up" burger they came out with? I forget what it was called, but it was supposed to appeal to an older, more health-conscious (??) fast-food customer.

Was that a MacDonalds thing?  In mid 90s that had an "adult" burger marketing campaign that was offensive, it featured angy children upset that there parents were now coming to McDonalds and it's not a kids place anymore.  Because I went to a McDonalds before the adult burger does that make me childish?  McDonalds has had many failed marketing plans.  Remeber McDLT, keep the hot side hot, cool side cool?  Shaker Salad?  Dumb all the way around. :(
