Subject: Worst 80's movie?

Written By: JETTA00 on 12/10/02 at 08:28 p.m.

What was the worst 80's movie?  Sleepaway Camp was the worst 80's movie I have ever seen.  I mean the girl is silent the whole movie and then turns into a killer boy screaming in the end.  And the whole part with their crazy mother and all those flashbacks, it just made NO SENSE!!!!!!  It was definetly cheesy and so 80's which makes it funny but there was nothing else to like about it  :(

That would have to be Footloose. Sorry if people like it but that movie annoyed the hell out of me! Not only was Kevin Bacon too old to play the part, his character was as rebellious as a rabid hamster.

There are two that pop into my mind and they were both MiSTied.....for those of you who watched that show...One of the movies was called Overdrawn at the Memory Bank, with Raul Julia and I can't remember the other one but it was a Battlestar Galactica wannabe.....something awful and cheesy with lots of short dresses on the main character along with the infamous big hair and some burly guy that kept picking her up and slinging her over his shoulder to save her.  Anyone know what it was called?

There was a film called "Don't go into the Woods." The only thing I can say about it DON'T GO TO SEE IT. We wasted our money on that one and even walked out. I never saw it since-not on t.v. not on video. It was THAT BAD!!!!!

Oh man, there were lots of bad movies. But for me the worst ones I paid to see were "E.T." and "The Dark Crystal".  The latter I fell asleep on.. and I think I spent most of my time during ET in the theatre lobby playing Miss PacMan.

After these two stinkers I vowed never to take my younger brother to another movie again.  :P

LOL!  Yes, I saw that thanks to MST!  (Man, I miss that show.)  Was that really out in theaters?  I think I recall a public message that indicated it was made by/for some local public network.  So from that standpoint, it doesn't count.   ;)  But it is really bad in quality.  The idea is OK, but it's just so incredibly bad to have to look at!  MST is the only reason I would bear to watch it!

Oh-hoh, you are brave!  Heresy!  LOL

I think ET is OK, but it's not now and never was the great movie it was made out to be.  I didn't like that boy much.  It's way overrated - and I'm somewhat surprised it was re-released this year for an anniversary.  Basically, after everyone got over it by 1985, it's been forgotten.

Right up there at the top has to be a stinker titled "Surf Nazis Must Die".  Very little plot.  Terrible dialogue.  It was sort of fascinating in its very awfulness.  We had to laugh!!!  And at the end of the movie were promotions for items like t-shirts etc. with scenes or characters from the movie... yeah, right.

I was beginning to think I was the only MST fan around here.  I don't know, maybe it didn't come out in theaters, so scratch it I guess, but MST is the only reason I can watch any of the movies they have on there.  The other movie I was talking about (which I still can't recall the name, but I do think it was in theaters) had me rolling.  They kept giving the guy these great names like Dirk Beefbreath.  I was rolling!

Disturbing scene is which a young woman begans to get a bit too "excited" at pictures of dead people.

That could have been a great movie. Think of all the great actors they had access to. Rodney Dangerfield, Chevy Chase, and Bill Murray (plus the old stuffy dude who played Vickie's father on Three's a Crowd). I love Dangierfield, I think he is a comic genius, or at least he makes me laugh til I pee. With the right script, this could have been the best movie of the 80's, but as it is, it is probably one of the worst.

Chevy Chase was in it.  Remember he sold the majority of the club's stock to Jackie Mason (Jack Hartoonian).
And don't forget Dan Akroyd and Randy Quaid's performances in the movie.

I know I am probably in the minority on this, but I don't think it was that bad of a movie.  Now I know it wasn't near the caliber as the original, but calling it the worst movie of the 80's is pretty harsh, in my opinion.

A cheesy flick from '86 about slugs from space that turned teens into zombies. (Saw it on Sci Fi...and forgot the title)

So awful that it makes "Howard the Duck" look like an Oscar winner.

Other movies I can't stand: "Beaches", "Killer Klowns from Outer Space", "E.T.", "Shanghai Suprise", and  "9 to 5".

"Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes" is actually from the 70's and is supposed to be the worst film ever made. Not to me though!! I loved it...if for no other reason than the song that was responsible for killing the tomatoes, "Puberty Love." :D  It's just great for the cheese value!!

Anyway, "Return Of The Killer Tomatoes" was from 1982 or something, and it was terrible. I'm sure George Clooney wishes to forget those days! Other than that, "Howard The Duck" was awful. That's all I can come up with right now. I'll post more later if I can think of any others. :)

I belive this is Dark Star by John Carpenter and it's from 1974.  It was his movie for school or something like that.

As for most of the movies listed by the others, I never saw them becuase they looked so bad to begin with.
However, I would agree with any of the "dance" movies and 99% of the slasher movies.

Worst movie ever in the 80s.  The Wizard with Fred Savage.  Absolutely terrible.  Fred has to escort some kid to the Nintendo World Fair to play Super Mario Brothers 3.  It was basically a 90 minute commercial for Nintendo and the kid wasn't very good at the game.  I kept thinking to myself that he was worse than my baby sister at games.

Oh wow, worst movies of the 80's, let me see.

Dungeonmaster:  THis one really stank.  They got sued by TSR (the makers of D&D), the sets were a joke, you could even see the boom mike over and over again on the top and sides of the screen.  THe only good thing is that after making this bomb, Richard Moll had to go to his Night Court audition with a shaved head, and thus the character of Bull was born.

THe worst was so bad, I can't even remember the title.  But I do remember it featured these chariots pulled by women in leather string bikinis.  It must be from late 84 to mid 85 though, because I saw it before I was married.

That Was Then, This Is Now:  This movie was not all that bad, but they totally lost the meaning behind this S.E. Hinton classic.  The book was about brothers and responsibility.  Having the "Good" brother carjack a car and go for a joyride at the end of it totally blew that for me.

My Bloody Valentine:  Oh how this movie stank!  It was the only one playing at the local drive in though, so I was forced to see it 4 times with my girlfriend (not that I remember actually seeing the movie).

That is one thing I really miss, drive-in movies.  Oh please bring them back.

As for drive in movies...what I wouldn't give to be able to go to one again.  With everything old being new again you'd think someone would at least try to bring the drive in back...after all it would appeal to a large number of people in multiple generations.

Actually, I loved that movie too.  An awesome soundtrack, with Van Morrison and Mickey Thompson.  I mean, come on!  How could you not love a duet with Mickey Thompson and Mel Torme!!!!!

It was a great movie, with lots of teen angst, some almost innocent romance, and a gripping story.  To bad the sequal had nothing to do with the original, and totally sucked.

Yet another movie I am waiting to come to DVD.

THe worst was so bad, I can't even remember the title.  But I do remember it featured these chariots pulled by women in leather string bikinis.  It must be from late 84 to mid 85 though, because I saw it before I was married.

This sounds disturbingly familiar.  Was it a cheesy scifi post apocalyptic kind of movie?

I thought Airplane II was one of the most hilarious movies ever.  Lloyd Bridges was hysterical.

Sleepaway Camp was bad.  I can't believe that anyone else has actually seen that one.
I would add...
"Sorority Babes at the Slimeball Bowlarama"
"Eat And Run"
""3:15"

Now those were all "B" movies and (hopefully) were never intended to be good.

The worst commercial film distributed to mass audiences was "Best Defense" with Eddie Murphy and Dudley Moore.  Eddie was in like 10 minutes of the movie and the rest of it just stunk!  I want my $3.50 back!

Airplane II was a good film but it relied on repeating certain jokes.

Ill go with Howard the Duck......Bad plot, lousy acting, crappy SFX. Can you believe George Lucas was the executive producer of this??!!

Dishonorable mention goes to Short Circuit.  The first time I watched this was on VHS.  After about the third time he said  "NUMBER 5 ALIVE!!!" I was ready to throw a brick through the TV.  But, the redeeming thing about this film was the Pakistani guy who was still grasping the English language.  He totally cracked me up.   ;D

I'd have to say "English Breakfast" or "Pretty in Pink" starring that awful Molly Ringworm

Also, I HATED Beavis and Butthead Does America

But, the #1 worst movie of the 80's is....

"Summer Camp" starring Bo Derek, Molly Ringworm, and Chelsea Vanderput  I will NEVER watch that movie again, even through 3-D glasses like the first time

OUCH!!!!

also folks, the dishonorable mention goes to:

Short Circuit for not having Madonna in it
And to Shanghai Surprise for having Madonna in it

Also I'd like to monimate Harry and the Hendersons, North Avenue Irregulars, and The Dirtbike Kid!!!
