Subject: Artists you hate, but shouldn't...

Written By: Screwball54 on 12/18/02 at 05:13 p.m.

I didn't know where to put this, so here will do

What are some artists you hate, but shouldn't bassed on your likings of similar artists?

For example:

Led Zepplin - I like other classic rock bands, but for some reason I just can't stand them.  I switch stations everytime one of thier songs is played

The Doors - Same as above

Barenaked Ladies - I like similar bands (Matchbox Twenty, Third eye Blind) but these guys I hate, don't know why.

anybody else?

For some reason with me it is John Cougar Melloncamp (or as I call him Mellonhead). I don't know why. I do like a lot of his music though.

I can't say that I hate him, but I have never like Bruce Springsteen's music much.
I never liked REO Speddwagon either, I hate that guys voice.
I used to love the Police and the Doors but may buddies and I listened to them so much that I have to change stations when the come on.

Add Pink Floyd to the above list with the same reasons for all three and you get my list.

My best friend calls him the "UURR" man because of how he drags out and murders all words that end in 'er' or 're'

Im with you there.  From day one I never much cared for John Cougar/John Cougar Mellencamp/John Mellencamp.  He does in fact have a couple of songs that I like (Play Guitar, Wild Night, Pink Houses).  But for every good song he puts out five lousy overplayed songs (Jack and Diane-boring, Cherry Bomb-lame, Small Town-gimme a break, Paper In Fire-tries to be serious but cant, Authority Song-tries to have an attitude like a country singer but cant, and about every other song he does is pretty much cookie cutter).

My second one is Night Ranger.  Why did they try to have an image like a hair metal band when they were nothing more than polished pop?   Practically everything they ever did fell short as good rock n' roll.  No substance what so ever.

I absolutely can't stand Elton John.  I hate the way he enunciates when he sings, I hate the way he looks, I hate how he's friends with wacko's like Liz Taylor and Michael Jackson.  I know he's popular and all, but I just can't take him!

Another one is Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20.  The radio station I listen to in the morning overplays his solo stuff and the band's stuff to death, and his music was never my style to begin with.  Plus, he's working that whole late 90's scruffy hair goatee'd/puka shell necklace thing, and he just skeeves me!

me...
Selwyn=he's aussie
The vines=there's original & aussie
Alicia Keys=oh, one song's OK, but... nope. Something just went wrong when they released her songs Fallin, A Woman's Worth, and Ganster Lovin' (with Eve)
Red Hot Chili Peppers: hmm.... the rest can play, and they write some good songs, but the fact that they don't normally wear shirts and the vocalist is annoying...
Eminem: he's real, but he's a rapper who can't... put his lyrics to good use. If he gave them to me before he even tried to get a single here, yeah, I might have given him a second chance.

Not only can I barely stand "Come On, Eileen" and whoever was the one-hit wonder group who released it, but I don't even remember being aware of the song back in the 80s, even though it's played to death on 80s stations.

I can't believe John Cougar Mellencamp is being picked on. He's one of my favourites - along with Bruce Springsteen :(

OK, see, this is going to sound heretical especially coming from someone my age; but The Greatful Dead!!
Actually I can't say that I hate them 'cause as far as I know I only heard one of their songs and that was 'Truckin'.
But when I was younger it seemed as though everyone was a dead head. Maybe if I had borrowed one of their albums and actually listened to some of their stuff I'd understand it better.

I'm all about New Order, The Smiths, The Cure, etc., but I loathe Depeche Mode with all of my heart, except for the odd song (Just Can't Get Enough is bouncy enough).  Basically, Depeche Mode sounds to me like new wave fluff with the fun sucked out of it.

I like John Mellencamp, Springsteen, and Tom Petty.  I HATE Bob Seger.

This is actually a great topic!!  As long as no one gets all crazy when their faves are mentioned! ;)  I actually like a lot of these mentioned, but that's what makes the world go 'round, yes?  :D

I would say that Pink Floyd is a good start.  They have maybe one or two songs that I like, but that's it.
Bruce Springsteen.  The boss of what?  Looking like a lumberjack?  Just my opinion, don't take it personally....
Eric Clapton.  Oh, please!!  Layla off it, already!  Cocaine isn't just a song, it's what I'd have to be on to listen to his stuff.

LOL!!! I agree on your choices above and the your entire Clapton statement.

Bruce's voice has just now begun to grate on my nerves after all these years and it must have been the number of times radio stations played his one x-mas song "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town". My ears bled. Shrrrrreeeeeekkkk.... Hoarse voices just don't do it for me. But I will always like his songs "Born In The U.S.A.", "Hungry Heart", "Glory Days" and "Cover Me".

I'll add:

Bob Seger, though I do like his song "Against The Wind".

Axl Rose, though I do like most of Guns N Roses's hits. "You Could be Mine" I definitely don't like.

Stevie Nicks, though I do like many of Fleetwood Mac's hits and even a couple off her solo stuff.

Rush, though I do like that one song "Fly By Night".

John Cougar Mellencamp, though I do like "I Need A Lover (That Won't Drive Me Crazy)" and "So Tough".

Shania Twain - I know she has the number one album but her voice is like nails on a chalkboard.  Her songs always sound off-key. Everytime I hear  "Man I Feel Like A Woman",  "That Don't Impress Me Much", "From This Moment One" or that new dreck she has out my head starts to hurt and I want to commit bloody murder.

But I'll listen to Faith Hill and Leanne Womack without suffering a seizure.
