Subject: Ok, Who Else Loved Depeche Mode?

Written By: Danzy on 01/02/03 at 03:35 p.m.

This was one of my all time favorite bands of that decade. So dark, pensive and brooding...just what the doctor ordered for an 80's teen like myself!!  ;D

Which song/album was your favorite from them?

Violater is my fav, although I've been listening to Black Celebration quite a bit also lately.

It's still amazing to me how Depeche Mode was one of the first groups I really remember listening to in the mid 80s and how it seems they are as popular now as they ever were.  That speaks volumes of their music.

The DVD 86-98 Singles is so good.  Their videos were one other thing that also set them apart from so many bands, they really put a lot of effort and thought into them.

My favorite single is "World In My Eyes."  "Strangelove" has gotten a ton of spins from me....I think I'm gonna have to put together another Mode Megamix soon.  8)

I cant say I loved Depeche Mode.  But, one of my favorite songs of all time has to be Personal Jesus.  Great pulsing rythym and dark lyrics.

BTW has anyone else done a line dance to Personal Jesus (steps similar to the Macerena yet a little more sharp and aggressive) or is that just a thing that was popular in NE Ohio where I grew up??

I'm sorry Jeff, I cannot imagine line dancing to Depche Mode.  Hiding in a corner solitary swirling is much more the depche sort of thing.

I was a big fan of Depeche Mode in the mid-80's.  I had several of their albums, but my favorite song has to be "Never Let Me Down Again".  :)

Gack.  One of the worst things to come out of the eighties.

I liked them too. even though I'm 21 and most people my age are into this so-called punk(blink 182) :( But anyways my favorite song by depeche mode would be strange love or enjoy the silence.

I was never big on Depeche Mode but there was one tune from them that I really liked; "Rout 66". When you crank that tune up on a good sterio system, it will give ya goose bumps. Kinda on the same scale as "White wedding" by Billy Idol.

Speaking of...  just yesterday, I listened to one of there albums for the first time beginning to end.  Cool stuff, definitely like....  I've heard their songs here and there on the radio but never really paid all that much attention to 'em...

But I'm a fan  8)

Okay, now I am ready to properly answer this question. My favourite album of theirs is Black Celebration, immediately followed by Some Great Reward. They both go with the theory that they should have been a double-cd set following a theme: The rise and fall of a relationship. Furthermore, Black Celebration has Martin L. Gore vocally collaborating in a lot of songs and is purportedly very much a reflection of said member.

Those are both great albums, TB.

BTW, I recently downloaded the Razormaid mix of "People Are People."  Interesting how Hot Tracks' "Edge" version uses a lot of the same edit sequences...hmmm...

LovED? How about love?  :D That's mostly what I've been listening to lately. Martin Gore has a lovely voice and he should be doing more lead vocals. (Nothing against Dave Gahan; he has a great voice as well.) I listen mainly to their 80's stuff. Here's some of my personal favourites:

Shake The Disease
Blasphemous Rumours
Somebody
A Question Of Lust
Home (OK, a recent song, but for the Martin Gore factor)  ;D
People Are People
Master And Servant
Everything Counts (I especially love the 12" Longer Version)
New Life
But Not Tonight
Leave In Silence
Enjoy The Silence
Policy Of Truth
Personal Jesus
Strangelove
Dreaming Of Me

...and let's not forget PIMPF/FPMIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Hehehe ;D
