Subject: Lost 80s song

Written By: Riaz on 01/06/03 at 11:09 a.m.

I used to record songs off the radio in the 80s.  I have all these mix tapes that I've been going through.  I've been able to figure out the artist and title of all my favourite songs except one.  If anyone knows what this song is it would be greatly appreciated!

I can't really make out the lyrics that well.

The chorus sounds like:

"Your first, your last
Your everything, your everything"

In terms of style it sounds alot like Simple Minds.  I thought it was for the longest time but I can't find a Simple Minds song to match it.  It sounds a bit like Depeche Mode too - in that genre.

???

I could only find Barry White with ANY sort of lyrics like that:

You're the First, the Last, My Everything

We got it together, didn't we?
Nobody but you and me.
We got it together, baby.

My first, my last, my everything,
And the answer to all my dreams.
You're my sun, my moon, my guiding star.
My kind of wonderful, that's what you are.

I know there's only, only one like you
There's no way they could have made two.
You're, you're all I'm living for
Your love I'll keep for evermore.
You're the first, my last, my everything.

Ya I keep finding that Barry White song too.  Definitely not it.  It totally sounds like Simple Minds.  We're talking circa 1985.  Maybe I have the lyrics wrong... They're pretty incomprehensible...

OK, I finally found that tape and sat down and tried to figure out the lyrics.  I really can't understand them that well but this is what I've come up with.  Alot of the words are probably wrong but it's basically there syllabically.  If anyone knows the song please help!!  Again it sounds alot like simple minds or even depeche mode to me...

Verse 1:

You always think I might
Take you all right through the night
You always wait at home
I'll wait for you

And follow intermission
People cry for other sides
they either miss or they will never miss
(uh huh, uh huh)

Bridge:

2x:

oh look these people
they will come across the skies
and now they're walking on the line

Chorus:

2x

Your first
Your last
For everything, for everything

Vs 2:

I've always been one to a good heart
to be part or ____ _____
Or have the time to give
You'll hear them say

And ___ ____ worry
you can never cry or never cry
as much as those whose eyes
are ever hearts
(uh huh, uh huh)

Bridge

Chorus

....sounds like "First, Last for Everything" by Endgames, from '83 (they're Scottish, btw....)

hey man-thanks a million.  from the research i've done i think you must be right.  unfortunately it looks like the song is pretty damn obscure.  but i think i found a compilation for sale that has it.  you've solved a very old mystery for me...
