I remember this! I had a few as well...the only ones I can remember were "Why be normal?" (which was printed upside down), "I like girls!" and "If it's too loud, you're too f***in' old!" (which I still have on my corkboard in my office lol)...

Ozzy - Blizzard cover
Yngwie Malmsteen
"Cyndi Sez Bop" - from a Cyndi Lauper concert
"Rude Boy"
a real cool Blondie one
Adam Ant - don't know where that one came from but gave it to a girl who loved him.
A Flying V guitar shaped one for the band Triumph.
KISS

there was more but these were my favorites

Holy cow...I had more than one Prince button!  I was a fanatic!  Also had a Pyromania one.  I think I still have a few of those laying around here somewhere, even!

OMG!! :o  My jacket was almost completely covered with buttons from the shoulders to about mid-chest.

Most of them were of pop/new wave bands I liked: Duran Duran, Kajagoogoo, Flock of Seagulls, Kraftwerk, Devo, Prince, Siouxie and the Banshees, Adam and the Ants, the B-52's and many, many more...

The rest were funny/rude sayings.  I had a "Why be normal?" one too, with the letter "R" printed backwards.  It showed a picture of a duck grinning, with human feet instead of duck feet.

My favorite one:

"Only two of my personalities are crazy, but one of them is paranoid, and the other is out to get him."  ;D ;D

I put my buttons on my backpack, not my jacket.  I had a few David Bowie buttons, one Freddy Krueger button and the rest (over 100 at one point) were all funny or witty sayings.  Some of my favorites:

"I need someone really bad, are you really bad?"
"Please don't feed or tease the normal people"
"Life's a b*tch and then you're reincarnated"
"Would you still love me if I had scales and secreted green mucus all over your couch?"
"A conventionon time travel will be held last week."
"How can I love you if you won't lie down?"  (at the time, I interpruted this one as a dominance/submission issue, I was an odd child)
"If you think I'm strange, you should meet my parents"
"Please don't eat my dog."
"Thank you for not eating, drinking, smoking, vomitting or excreting any pus"
"My Mind went out for pizza and didn't invite me."

:D   :D
From 8th grade through Sophmore or Junior year of HS the entire front of my jean jacket was covered in pins. I kept losing them so I finally took most of them off. I only remember the band ones (Skid Row, Def Leppard, Metaillica) and I think I had one that said in small print "If you can read this, you're standing too close" and another that said "Yuck Foo" I think I still have some of my faves in a box somewhere....

"Isn't That Special" was one.  I had some  band ones, but I don't remember what they were :)

I had so many!  It's so good to hear about people who had them too.....I recently went back to college with people younger than myself, and I mentioned buttons and they all looked at me like I was insane.  ;D
My only regret is that I sold them all at garage sales when they went out of style - along with all my old toys, cassettes, and Star Wars stuff. :-/

I had a million Duran Duran buttons (Go figure, huh?!) and I still have most of those.  I still have one Rick Springfield pin that was from 1982 when I saw him in concert.  I had one with a frog on it that said "Kiss Me I Don't Smoke" (I think I started smoking within a year of getting that pin, and only last year managed to quit).  I had a zillion, I only remember the ones I'm naming because I still have them in my jewelry box.  The strangest one I still have says "Clean up the city, eat a pigeon!"  I have NO IDEA where/why on THAT one!

I have a large plastic box filled to the brim with mostly Men At Work buttons...that was the group I was fanatical over at the time.  I got one at their Cargo concert that was 3D...the kind that changes over from one image to another.  I have a smattering of Adam Ant (I liked him but was no big fan of his), one or two of Duran Duran, and a couple from Culture Club, who were also fun, but I wasnt as enthused by them.  I bought recently a couple of buttons from Big Country.

some of the ones with sayings on it were

"I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person"
"Dain bramaged"
"I was CLOSEUP to the 1985 Inauguration Freeze-Out"

As a kid, I had a pin that had a large fingerprint with eyes and a mouth that said, "I'm Thumbody." I also had it on a big poster that said, "Thumbody loves you."

As an adult, the only pin I think I wore was my Dr. Demento pin.  ;D
