Subject: Mystery song from 1983...?

Written By: Jake (Guest) on 01/10/03 at 12:02 a.m.

I've been looking for this song for about 20 years--heard it a few times but never learned the artist or title.  If you can help, I'd be very much obliged.  Thanks!

"I could never see the reason in the way you look at me
Baby your the one I need so come on cause I need you know.
Chorus:
Say you will, stay with me tonight,
You won't be sorry
Please don't say, girl you'll lose your love this way

I could never give you everything you ever wanted from me
Every time I try I always get a kick in the face

I don't want to feel that I could ever do without you girl
Oh but tell me that you want me, tell me you really care."

I could find NOTHING for this.  The first thing that popped into my head was Foreigner "Say You Will", but I am not thinking that is it!   There was something that popped up for me...INXS "Stay the Night", but I have no idea if that is it, either.  :(

Thanks--I know it wasn't a well-known group that did it but rather an obscure late new-wave/early newro group.

More info as the memories come back:

The tempo was a little like the Psychelic Furs "Love my way"
As I recall the instrumentals were kind of synth-pop and the vocalist was male.

I appreciate the reply!

That question was asked by a friend on another board (almost a year ago), so I thought I would see if I could find it for her. I did find it (can't remember how), gave her a link to a 45 for sale, she bought it and mailed me a copy. I had never heard it before.

Given that, I knew the first time I saw this post It sounded familiar, but couldn't remember from where. ???

just for a little more information on the band...

the name of the album was the ears have walls... it was released originally on warner brothers in '82 in the US and F-Beat in the UK... it was the walls have ears on the UK release...

YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!  Thank you ever so much.

This song has HAUNTED me since the summer of 1983.  I remember hearing it late at night on the now-defunct KROY in Sacramento, California...new wave had only begun to make itself known in the tiny hill town where I grew up...that summer of dread and excitement as I prepared to leave my small-town home for college in Los Angeles...oh, the memories...

Now if I can only find a copy of the song...

This board is great--since discovering it last Thursday I have spent a lot of time learning and reminiscing...thanks again for your help...and TX, if you're ever in San Francisco, I owe you a beer (or, in the spirit of this board, a New Coke!)

MIssion accomplished--and it's the extended remix, no less!  Complete with the pops and scratches of vinyl...and a bonus skip in the first 45 seconds.

I'm in heaven.

Cheers then!

:o
WHAAAAAAAHHHH, :o ???

What a coincidance, this is a song I am searching for so long!
It has also pinned into my head since 1983 and today I was looking on the internet for this song too.

So I am here now, and wondering why this song is not available on Kazaa.

Is there anybody willing to send this song to:
wim@minitruckers.nl ?

Whoopie, that would be great!!

Billy (called Wim, but English talking people can't get it out of there mouth)

The whole text:

I wont feel this way another day ‘its killing me, I don’t want to be the one you try to mess around
I could never see the reason and the way you looked at me,
Baby your the one I want so come because I need you now

Say you will, stay with me tonight, You won’t be sorry
Please don’t say you gonna lose your love this way

I could never give you everything you ever wanted from me
Every time I try I always get a kick in the face
I don’t wanna feel that I could never do without you girl
O but tell me that you want me, tell me that you really care

Say you will, stay with me tonight, You won’t be sorry
Please don’t say you gonna lose your love this way

Watching my live is so empty since I let you go
I wouldn’t think that you know
Baby give me your love, I know it’s gonna be allright.
