Yes the saying "NOT!" was indeed a 90s thing.

LOL, I was about to say, that the ultimate test to see if you really grew up in the 1980s would be if you can spot what on that list is really from the 80s or from the decades surrounding, i.e. late 70s or early 90s.

A friend from another forum posted that.  Thought it was perfect for here.

I think that list is definitely for people who were born in the late 70s or early 80's...it is for the youngest of the 80s generation because those are all the things I remember and I was born in '82, but some of those were 90's. I was so young in the 80's that sometime I have a hard time remembering what was 80's and what was early 90's...which reminds me to ask something that someone here might clear up for me. Was Wilson Philips late 80's or 90's? My boyfriend and I saw an infomercial on tv saturday for Rod Stewart collection of greatest hits and one of the songs was "reason to believe" and I was telling him how (while I know NOW that is a Rod Stewart song) when I was younger I only knew it by Wilson Philips...heh

You remember Commadore and Apple IIe computers as "cutting edge technology"

You played laserdiscs - not DVD's

CD players cost $700

And you thought nothing would ever take the place of vinyl albums

Wilson Philips were 90s.  Very early 90s.  They came out in 1990.  About a 1/3 of the stuff on that list is actually 90s, and not from the real 1980s.

Fresh Prince, Saved by the Bell, M.C. Hammer, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movies, these were all from the early 90s.  But I've noticed that they are frequently confused with the late 80s.

you actually understand "Beta or VHS"?

you got in trouble for staying up late to watch Eddie Murphy, Joe Piscopo, Billy Crystal, Dana Carvey, and Dennis Miller on Saturday Night Live

You remember the launch of MTV

You can name all of the John Hughes' movies and the actors who were in them.

you are right.  I was reading through the list and noticed there were a lot of early-mid 90s things and a few late 80s things.

actually, Beta tapes and players were still in some stores until at least 1992.  We still used and rented Beta tapes until then.

I thought they were cousins or something like that?

And if you want to go even further, and say that the "real" part of the 1980s actually ended in 1987, then even more of the stuff on that list wouldn't apply.  Since there is so much late 80s stuff on there.
