Hi!  I am new to this board.  I wanted to know if anybody  was into the Roller Skating craze like I was.  I have sooo many fond memories.  First boyfriend, slow skating to "Open Arms" by Journey, getting to second base in the bathroom!!!  Hee Hee ;D ;D

Oh yeah the roller rink was THE place to hang out in my town when I was growing up.  I remember the coolest thing they did was called a "blackout."  They would shut off all the lights except for the blacklights over the rink itself.  Well  since flourescent colors were popular in the 80s everyone would be glowing in the black light.

Ah those were the days.

The skating rink was about the only place for kids in my area to go and hang out without getting into too much trouble. :)
I wasn't a very good skater but my boyfriend was and he used to kinda pull me all over the floor.  I used to love going and miss having that kind of place for my kids to get to experience.  They turned the rink I used to go to into a movie theatre and the one here in town is closed as far as I know. :(
Man, those were the good days!!

Welcome princessofpop!

Some of my fondest childhood memories were at the local roller rink.   My grade school would have a couple nights each school year when we would go.  This was around the mid-80s.  The funniest thing for me was when the high school kids would show up and and skate so much better than we kids did(I remember trying to skate fast and always bailing!)

When I was in 3rd or 4th grade, I remember the best night for me was when they had a couples skate(they always had 2 songs played at the rink I went to).  The girl I asked to skate with went with me on the first song and then a cute girl asked me to go with her on the second song.  I felt so cool that night.  I wound up later finding out the first girl wanted to "go out"(cheesy way to put it, but I don't know how else) with my best friend and the second girl, who I liked too and was really nice moved to another school.  :(

One other thing, it seemed like every dude there, including myself, had a comb with him to feather his hair after skating.  Hilarious!  :D

In the 1970's a roller-skating rink opened near my house, and me and my sister wanted roller skates for Christmas, but no one had any for sale anywhere.  I hardly ever went there, though, and it closed a few years ago.  The building still stands, however.
