Subject: Bubble Gum Records

Written By: princessofpop on 02/02/03 at 12:40 a.m.

Does anybody remember these?  They were like little albums that were made of pink bubble gum & they came in actual little album covers?  I remember having Pat Benetar, Billy Squire, Ozzy Osbourne and The Knack to name a few.  In my town they sold them in record stores and they were always near the cash register.  Ring a bell?????

Somebody else brought these up once before, in the days of the old board (October of 2000), which I also answered back then. They were called "Chu-Bops", and were big in the early to mid '80s. Your description is accurate, all the way down to the displays most often being found on record-store counters by the register. They measured 3.25" x 3.25"...

I had a couple of these too.

The Knack and Billy Joel were two that I remember.

Yep. I had Blondie, Pat Benatar, and some others. They also included lyrics to one song from the album. Remember the bubble gum CDs?

There were gum CDs a few years ago. They came in a CD jewel case and sported names like "Rebubble Smackentire". There was also gum in the shape of small videocassettes with names like "Bubble & The Beast".
