Subject: For any Great White Fans out there

I was never a huge fan of theirs, but this is terrible.  I woke up hearing about it on the radio this morning.  So far all band members accounted for except for the lead guitarist.  And the total death toll keeps rising  :'(

I also heard on CNN that David Hasselhoff and his wife were in a motorcycle accident last night.  From what I heard, they're both still in the hospital, but are ok.

Not a fan, but a New Englander...it is terrible.  The death toll is at 60, with 164 injured.  It was your typical small venue rock joint...bar, pool tables, stage.  Horrible tragedy.  This has been a tough week in New England, with sending reservists' off to the middle east, the blizzard, and now this!

It is terrible... I mean everyday it's somebody...  people in the blizzard, the stampede in Chicago, the Great White concert...even just everyday accidents, car crashes, snowmobile accidents, it's just sad... :'(

Well, at least I know the lead singer made it out alive because they were interviewing him…

There have been a lot of bad things going on lately, not to mention the Korean subway tragedy and the tower of my local Fox affiliate, which was taller than the World Trade Center, collapsing due to the heavy ice accumulation on it…  (But the good news about the TV tower collapse is that the local cable system is relaying the programming it would have carried, so I can watch the race this Sunday!  "The Simpsons" is on this Sunday, but it's two reruns an hour earlier than usual, and the "X-Men" movie being shown in its place…)

Very tragic news. The footage of the fire starting and the panic to escape the club is absolutely gruesome to watch...  :'(

The death toll has reached 95 at this time.  Very sad.  I was a fan of Great White and can remember working one of their concerts in 1989.  I was given several "singles" tape cassettes by one of their roadies... I still have them around somewhere.

Rock on...

What really bothers me about this tragedy is that it was caused by just plain stupidity on the band's part. If it was something beyond their control, that is one thing. But to use pyrotechnics in a small building is just plain STUPID!!!! How do you justify all those lives for that?

:( :( :(The death toll is 96 now,I believe. The guitarist is probably dead,as is the waitress who was on the news footage.I think the band may be firing their manager in the near future--he's the one who told them that pyro was OK. :(But,if someone is a really good singer, they don't need that anyway--a good concert should be enjoyable by a blind person.

I agree...with some of that.  It was NOT the BAND's responsibility to make sure the building was up to code, and having a license for pyro.. and the state fire marshall's duty to see that it's ok.  It was the club owners responsibility to ask questions..(will there be pyros..how much clearence do they need..etc.) and if the works were going too high, it should have been nixed.  There are works that can be used safely in a small venue and have been used for years.  That is what should have been used..IF the club owners were licensed for it...and as of this morning that was doubtful that they were.
However, saying all this, it was also the band's road manager's job and DUTY to ask those questions also. It was also up to the people booking the band.  Just so many people involved that should have done their job. But to blame the group themselves is pointless, all they want to do is make music...and that is what they were doing, not worrrying about the pyrotechnics.  They are in just as much pain as the rest of the people.  Remember, the lead singers son was injured..and I think they lost their guitar player.
But...hindsight is 20/20 and all of this blaming can not bring back all those lives lost needlessly.
My condolences goes out to the family and friends lost.

The band and the pyro technicians also needed permits.
