Subject: 80's sampled songs
Looking for a little help here. I build a 80's quiz every week at work (MSNBC...we get bored some days) and I wanted to make a very specific quiz this week. Can anyone name some 80's songs that were later sampled and hits. Something like "True" from Spandal Ballet that was sampled in "Set adrift on Memories bliss" by PM Dawn. That kind of think. All are welcome! thanks

Rick James' "Super Freak" was sampled for MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This."

Queen & Bowie's "Under Pressure" was sampled in "Ice Ice Baby" (quit denying it Vanilla! >:( ;D)
"The Message" was sampled in Puffy's "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down" (double negative, does that mean anybody can hold him down?) :D
"Let's Dance" sampled in Puffy's "Been Around The World"
Kool & The Gang's "Hollywood Swinging" sampled in Ma$e's "Feels So Good"
Laid Back's "White Horse" sampled in Monifah's "Touch It"
George Michael's "Father Figure" was sampled in PM Dawn's "Looking Through Patient Eyes"
That's all I can think of right now, but there are many more...

Hmmm, none of my chart books (which always mention samples) indicate that, TB. And in addition, the official songwriting credit on "SLTS" is Kurt Cobain/Chris Novoselic/Dave Grohl (i.e., the three members of Nirvana), so no royalties were ever paid to Killing Joke (or whoever wrote "Eighties"). Otherwise, they would be listed as co-songwriters on "SLTS". So it appears that isn't the case...

I thought the Nirvana tune was actually "Come As You Are."
Tom Tom Club's "Genius of Love" sampled in Mariah Carey's "Fantasy"
Change's "Glow of Love" in Janet Jackson's "All For You"
Grandmaster Flash's "The Message" is also sampled in Ice Cube's "Check Yo'self"
Depeche Mode's "Policy of Truth" (I know it came out in '90) was sampled in Krome & Time's Remix of Smart E's "Sesame's Treet"

Van Halen's-"Jamie's Crying" (Eddie's guitar riff) was sampled for Ton Loc's "Wild Thang"

I screwed up! DJ Midas got the right song. It was "Come As You Are." Sorry for the mix up and thanks pointing that out. Hehe. Shows you how much I know of Nirvana songs :P
Okay, I got another one! Sponge sampled Dramarama's "Anything Anything" on their song "Plowed." It is one of the few examples where I like the sampled song more than the original.

Prince & The Revolution's "When Doves Cry" is sampled in MC Hammer's "Pray"

That song "Da Da Da" from the late 90s, all I know is people talked about the video having a chair in the back of a Volkswagen.. the background sample in that was identical to a sound from this really cheap tiny little keyboard I got in the 80s.

Will Smith, the former Fresh Prince sampled that one for one of his songs a few years ago too. It might've been "Willenium," I'm not 100% sure.

The intro to the Offspring's "Pretty Fly (for a White Guy)" is exactly the same as Def Leppard's "Rock of Ages"!

Forgot to mention that Sterling Void's "Alright" is also used in the aforementioned tune...Pet Shop Boys did a cover.
