Hi every1:)
I gotta do an assignment on the 80s slang for my uni'. I've already checked the page of "intheeighties" about slang but can't tell which ones were the most popular ones(I'm not English). Will u help me n tell me which were the most popular 80s slangy words for u?

Well, it's been a while, but let me see if I can remember.
Gag me with a spoon is one that pops into my head right away.
Awesome is one that some still use today..at least in my neck of the woods.
Cool dude...or is that 90's??? LOL
Ok..I just proved that the memory is the first thing to go!

Like, totally was very popular to say in the 80s! Also rad, b*tchin' and dweeb were commonly used! Hope this helps! :)

Probably "Rad". This was skateboarding slang in the 80's. This was the first word that popped into my head when I read the subject.

Oh, and we used to call the mall (any mall) the Galleria.

There was also the common phrase, "fer shurr", which I guess was a corruption of "for sure", as in That dweeb has a really skanky hairdo, fer shurr. :D
And also the inexplicable phrase Like, gag me with a spoon when someone said or did something that was unappealing to you. :)

I remember seeing "rook" as in "rookie" being used alot back then, i suppose its been replaced by "n00b" or "newbie"

The phrases I always used were "totally awesome" or "that's so rad or radical"

You're welcome, Delia! It might also be helpful to note that the slang that I've been mentioning was predominantly used in the US during the 80s. :)

cool dude lets bail-thats all i heard in high school ,man-dude was scratched in the back of my 280 z and it was written all over my school books-not by me though-my buddies-bad thing is i still talk like that today

I'm from the city so even though I had the Valley Girl Guide (I still have that thing somewhere), we used other venacular.
The first time I heard "Homes" was in high school. "Intense" was another (I made up a song called "Menard You're Too Intense").
The one that I used a lot was from a song by Laid Back (White Horse"), called "Cool Out". So "Co-ool" and "Fav" were in constant use. When it came to being really mad "flush it", because that's pretty much what you wanted to do (that also came from the 1980 LP by Alice Cooper called "Flush the Fashion" does ANYONE remember "Clones")

I remember saying Pretty before other words like
Pretty excellent!
before Val speak, our school called boneheads "noon"
as in "what a noon"!
