Harem pants were a big deal in the late 80s...

Depends on the occasion and which part of the decade...

Prep-school casual pants = navy or stone-coloured flat-front chinos.

Jeans = always taper-legged.  Early-to-mid 80s = "pegged" (roll from bottom leg 2 times to rest on top of your 1) high-top Chucks, 2) ankle-boots, or 3) Trojan sandals   8)  Mid-to-late 80s = taper-legged, tight, shredded, acid-washed or pepper-dyed.

Yes, Harem pants came along in the late 80s (TY, MC Hammer) but the pre-cursor was the jersey-knit "yoke" pants (often worn under a long-flowing shirt/blouse/jacket/duster), which, unfortunately, gave way to the "stirrup pants".  Ugh.

Be specific, which part of the 80's?  There were different types of 80's.  What people wore in 1983 was not the same as what was the style in 1989.

There were so many styles of girls pants..and like the other posts mentions..diff styles were more popular during diff years of the 80s.  Jeans were a constant throughout the 80s...although you could do the pegging style in the early 80s and the acid wash came along in the mid 80s.  Harem pants were very cool in the late 80s (I had several pair myself) And also the drop yoke style (usually cotton or cotton/poly blend) pants that tapered at the ankles were popular as well.  These came in all sorts of bright colors, incl neon sometimes.  Another style that you could see every now and then in the 80s were the billowy bloomer pants, usually made of rayon.  I LOVED these and had three pair.  Mine all had a wide elastic waistband and lots of gathering at the waist and then ended just at or above my knees in elastic.  These looked cute with striped tights or colored tights (Although in the summer I often wore mine without tights..) Look for Winona Ryder wearing pants like these during a croquet scene in "Heathers"... Although I was more of a skirt guy myself, I did enjoy the various styles of girls pants that were popular in the 80s..
