Subject: hilarious new 80s book!!

Written By: katie on 04/18/03 at 01:45 p.m.

Just had to spread the word about this hilarious new book I just finished, "Getting Over Jack Wagner" by Elise Juska. It's full of 80s songs and bands--the whole thing has a mix tape that starts each chapter... Duran Duran, Prince, Pat Benatar, Modern English, The Cure, etc. (They should really package it with a CD--or better yet a mix tape!) Main character (who fell in love with Jack Wagner when she was a kid) is in her 20s and still dating guys in bands trying to find a deep “rock star”… Other 80s cameos: A-ha, "Alf," Jams shorts, "My Two Dads," Bop Magazine, legwarmers, Andrew Ridgeley... A must-read for all 80s music fans. I was literally laughing out loud! Check it out!

Speaking of "My Two Dads", did you know that the character "Joey" (Greg Evigan) was the same guy who played "B.J." in "B.J. and the Bear", the early 80s TV show about a truck driver who travelled with a chimpanzee?

I didn't know until recently, but I remember thinking how familiar the guy looked when I watched "My Two Dads" even though I had no idea where I'd seen him before.

I suggested to my editor at the newspaper where I've been writing book reviews to pick me up a copy of this book so that I may review it! ;) Anything for a freebie!!!

Here's what the cover looks like:

Speaking of books, has anybody read "Retro Hell"? It was printed in the late 90's,and is about growing up in the 70's and the 80's. It is a great book and features articles written by people sharing their favorite memories of the fads, songs,tv shows, and movies from those decades. Thanks for the memories! Sincerely,Steve.  :)

Good timing Katie! I just caught that cover out of the corner of my eye in a bookstore this past weekend and thought it was kind of funny. I even drew my friends attention to it but neither one of us picked it up.

I'll have to check it out!
Thanks,
Zed

Katie, your right - the book was great.  I read it on vacation this past summer.  It was also set in Philly so it was fun to read a book that mentions places I am very familiar with.
