Subject: Favorite Pinball game?

Written By: Arcfire on 04/19/03 at 03:36 p.m.

Pinball was big in the 80s. Some of the best tables came out during the early 80s (concept wise) and late 80s when dot matrix displays came out.

Some of my favorites were: (yes some of them are before 80 and after 90)

Mata hari
Black Knight
Firepower
Kings of Steel
Playboy (1979 ver)
Cyclone
Comet
Road Kings
Elvira and the party monsters
Pinbot
Black Knight 2000
The Addams Family
Tales of the Arabian nights

I had the Fl state record for firepower for 3 months back in 82, what a great game!

It really is too bad Bally/Williams went belly up in '99. They had the best tables over all! I dont think that any company can continue on the legacy....

If anyone is interested in pinball emulators, (Hairspray I think you said that you love pinball games) you can find many of the old Bally, Williams tables as well as some new concept ones that were never released here:

Have fun in nostalgia land!

note that this Vpinball can also emulate Pachinko machines as well as the very old pin-slot type of machines of the early '20s. A very well thought out emulator. Kudos to the programmers!!

The only pinball game I played on a regular basis in the 80s was an old "Elton John Pinball Wizard" machine my grandpa had gotten from somewhere.

I guess he thought we would put money in it, but we would just go to the back and reset it to play as many free games as we wanted. :)

I put so many quarters into machines but I really can't remember which ones. I think there was one called Sliver Ball and another if I remember was called Gargoyle. That one I remember once having 11 games on one quarter. That was so cool.

Yeah, I think that is it. Thanks. I guess my memory is a bit hazy. I didn't download it. I'm always cautious about downloading anything.

Good tables too HS!!! I had forgotten about Kiss and Charlies Angels!! there were at least 2 versions of Kiss though, one in the late '70s and another in the early '90s! Which  one was it?  :D

Well Cat, if you go to IRpinball then those files have all been scanned and tested for viruses, I have Norton AV running and have never had a problem from that site. Download it from IR if you are unsure about a personal link from the author. Your right it is better to be safe than sorry! ;)

My favorites were Bad Cats and PinBot. I have such a hard time finding arcades or game places with pinball now, so sad

Well then CheshireCat, use the emulators, I know its not the same as banging on a real table but it fulfills my need now till I can afford either Elvira and the party monsters, Tales of the Arabian nights or Black Knight 2K. Some are so well done that they include all the original sounds (I really reccomend if  any of you have ever played Black Knight 2K to download VP, and Black's conversion of the table. He even has 5 megs of the original sound in MP3 format so it sounds as well as it plays!!
Pinbot is available for the VP format but I have not seen Bad cats yet. I am sure someone will convert it soon

Most of my pinball playing was in the 70's as a kid when they were still analog. You know, the numbers weren't electronic. Anyway I forget all of the names but what I most remember was knowing how to get free games without spending a quarter. You could either pick up the front of it and drop it and games would start popping up or we would make slugs out of pennies by smashing them with a hammer or make a  hole in a quarter and tie string to it. It wasn't nice but hey, we were kids. That was about the worst trouble we got into. Until we got older that is.

LOL Tim I know it has nothing to do with pinballs but on the original Pacman machines if you took a "D" battery and hit it just above the coin slot it would register a credit too!

I can also remember adjusting the height of the pinball tables by taking 2 plastic ashtrays from the bowling alley and placing them under the front 2 feet, they always had such an extreme slant on the bowling alley pinball games!  >:(

Man these pinball titles bring back the memories! :o

I can remember being in an arcade called "wizards" for hours playing either Haunted House or Haunted mansion, it had a 3 tiered tabl3, very cool for its day!

Yep I remember that one Mad, it was a good table! I hated the ball coming off the top tier since it would straight drain down the middle of the table. I think it was one of the first tables to put a pin down between the 2 flippers on the main table to prevent a straight flush. It was a pretty big table if I remember correctly.
