Subject: Scandals and other things of the 80's

Written By: Ich bin ein zauber junge on 04/23/03 at 05:13 p.m.

Hello all I was born in 85 and have to do a project for school. It's about the 80's I have to find some great scandals of the 80's, other then savings and loans. I also need products of the 80's isnt there something like giggle cream or giggle cookies or something?

There were scandals about evengalists-such as Jimmy Swaggert who was caught having an affair with Dawn Hall (I think-if memory serves me). There was also the Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker who was caught swindling money from their ministry. I think there were a few others but I really can't remember.

Yeah, me too. I was just upset because they interupted my soap. But I now know what it was all about. Some very dirty dealings there.

The Iran/Contra affair..took up more air time in 1987 on the 3 networks than the Iraq war has..though there were far fewer news outlets and things didn't happen as "fast"..no 24hr news with a constant ticker of info. Isn't Oliver North a correspondent on a network now?? I understood somewhat what was going on..it was confusing even to most adults..as a 6th grader..I remember asking my teacher about it..he kinda explained it..I also remember specifically asking him about the Iran/Iraq war (we were studying Babylon I think)..and he told me that we (our country) were on the side of Iraq because Iran was horrible and killed a lot of people and Iraq was on our side..

Yeah, he's on Fox News...I was actually watching it a few weeks ago with some friends who were my age or slightly younger...when he came on, I was the only one in the room who had an idea of who he was.

But Iran-Contra started in 1987? I thought it was later...around 1989 or 1990.

It started in 1987, 1986 really.  Hey I was in high school at that time, graduating in '87 anyway, and even I didn't know what that scandal was about back then. There are people my age who wouldn't remember Oliver North, so dont' feel bad that you don't remember the guy.  Who wants to remember him anyway?

Do a "Google" search on Leona Helmsley. She was quite the scandal.

>:( >:( >:(Well, there was a scandal involving the women's gymnastics teams from East germany and the USA.The USA was in the bronze medal position and the east germans were 4th.Rhonda Faehn,an alternate team member fron the us,was on the floor at the wrong time to help move some equipment. The germans pointed it out,and the US lost 5 points,so they didn't get the bronze medal.Guess who got the bronze---THE EAST GERMANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!At the men's competition,a Korean guy won a gold medal, and playfully got on the podium before the ceremony. This could have cost him points, but since the Olympics were in Seoul,South korea, officials apparenty feared for their lives if they penalized him,so he got his medal.Cheers! >:(
