Well true "Customs" are things that are passed down and spread around..usually don't have much to do with the decade..what does have to do with the times..how those customs are done. Example: celebrating New Years..in the 80s, it was Dick Clark on ABC (like it is today)..

It was considered rebellious to eat your meal with a salad fork.

After kids fed their pet dinosaurs, we would spend a pleasant evening stirring butter and mixing cement.

Cannabalism, while still commonly practiced, was considered rude in public places.

ROFLA ! These answers crack me up !  ;D

I can't think of one solitary "custom" which was developed in the 80s. I did, however, conceive of but never put forth a new concept - Showers for Single Women. I never  started it though, but spoke about it with a friend who thought that it was a good idea. Oh - I know - the custom of installing car alarms and neighbors going crazy from them sounding off every ten minutes !

Not to mention I remember first learning to drive. Back then my dad had to help me run so the car would move faster. If we ran fast enough, we could get it up to 20 mph! Technooolllooggy.  ;D Now I have better shoes so I can move the Limestone Lincoln without his help.

Other common customs of the 80's-

Home theater consisted of a video machine termed "VCR"
Images were actually provided from a crude magnetic taping method.

Pornogaphy was only viewed by single men and perverts, it was limited to mostly "magazines"  The pictures were not stored on your hard drive but under mattresses and in dressor drawers.

Spam was an actual edible meat-like substanace of undertermined origins.  It was just as commonly disliked back then as it is today in it's current form.

The 80's had an actual actor for it's president, not amateurs that are common since.

It's been so long ago and this old mind is tuckered out, perhaps others can recollect some I have forgotten. ;)
