For the worst videos of the 80's, I feel with absolute certainty there is a tie between Taco's "Puttin' On The Ritz" & Tom Petty & The HeartBreaker's "Don't Come Around Here No More". 100%, no doubt about it, IMO.

I'll just ignore all the bashing of one of the biggest ground-breaking videos of the decade in the form of Tom Petty and wonder why no one has mentioned Toni Basil's "Mickey".

God, what a tart video. I seriously think she chose the biggest cheerleaders she could find for that video in order to make herself look even thinner. I try to not think about the panty shots as well because Toni Basil is about as sexy as a 1955 Buick Roadmaster. But the scariest part has to be Basil's make-up. I hope no new hookers took over Toni's street corner while she was making the video.

And "Der Kommissar" by Falco. Not After the Fire. Falco. It's the one where he's blue screened in front of a police car driving at him and he's attempting to do something resembling running to get away. Oh, if only those cops had just gunned the engine and ended that video quick. I guess that's kind of mean since the man died in a car crash but the video sucked rocks.

Kudos to the mention of Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry Be Happy". People on that many drugs should not make a video. It looked like the home videos you see of teenagers attempting to be all cool singing along with a record in the background. Hey, Robin Williams. Stick to movies, OK?

Don Johnson's "Heartbeat" was also awful. Did he do anything in that video besides stomp around and squint? Oh yeah. He sucked too. Give me a Bruce Willis video any day.

Here endeth my rant. :)

I disagree with previous statements about Tom Petty's "Don't Come Around Here No More".  That's like saying Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video (long version) was unimportant in music video history.  'Nuff said.

But I would say any video Rick Astley came out with rates pretty high up on the cheezy factor scale.  Of course, I have to give him credit for going public on Much Music and admitting that he can't dance and hated doing the video shoots.  (The VJ pointed out that he does the exact body movements in every video)  :)

"Mickey" was a fun, campy video and Toni Basil looked cute.

This can't be considered too bad on the amusement factor alone.  I wonder who told this man that he could dance? ;D

Basically every video done by one of those 80's "hair metal" bands was bad.

Also, every video David Lee Roth ever made.

"Legs" by ZZ Top was an awful video.

Absolutely Vile

That was the idea. Unfortunately, when you watch the actual video, it merely looks like she is *trying* to look 18. The makeup is clownish and scary.

The song, on the other hand, is a great bit of cheesy synth-pop ;D

I cant remember if it was late 80s or early 90s but there was a 3 girl rap group that sang Super Sonic. One girl kept talking about her beat box, the first time I heard it on the radio, I almost spewed coffee all over the dash! :o The video was much worse.  :(

Any and all girl rapper video's sucked.  Salt n Pepa, MC Lyte, Queen Laqueefa, Da Brat, and others.  They were so bad I can't even begin to name them all.

Hi everyone!

How can anyone hate the music video 'Don't come around here no more' by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers? The video was amazing - especially the finale where they make out that Alice is a big cake and they cut her up!

As for bad 80s music videos I'll go with 'She's like the wind' - Patrick Swayze and along with it 'I had the time of my life' - Bill Medley/Jennifer Warnes. All pretty good songs though.

In the same vein, Steve Winwoods 'Higher love', Dollar's 'Oh l'amour and Boy meets girl's 'Waiting for a star to fall' are amazingly dissapointing considering the quality of the songs.

To conclude; 'Everything I own' by Boy George, Visage's 'Fade to Grey' and Chic's 'D.I.S.C.O' are all a pile of pants - the latter video just comprised of a woman in feathers dancing about in front of a 'stary' background with a bloke in a boilersuit!

Cheers everybody :D

Bobby.
