Subject: Can you help me solve a video mystery?

Written By: McPants on 05/13/03 at 03:21 a.m.

Hi, I'm brand new to this forum.  I like it already.

I want to see if anyone can help me to identify a video/artist from either the very late 80's or the very early 90's (can't remember which).  What I *do* remember is the video itself.  It was by some sort of mellow alternative band (I think) - but visually, it consisted solely of a bunch of different, random girls' faces, in close-up.  Not singing - just looking into the camera - that's it! - the entire video!  One random girl after another.  About 15 seconds for each, then it would switch to the next girl.  Some of them squirmed and giggled nervously at first, then grew more comfortable as the time passed.  Others were confident from the start...  But all of them *had* to look into the camera for a good long time.

The reason it made such a lasting impression on me (even though I saw it only once or twice) was because the girls were so diverse - all races, all tempermants, etc... - and you'd sit there and look into the eyes of one of them for 15 seconds, and then - NO MATTER HOW "NOT-YOUR-TYPE" YOU THOUGHT SHE LOOKED WHEN SHE FIRST APPEARED - you were ALWAYS sad to see her go!  You'd then say, gee, this next one won't have the same effect on me that the last one had - but - EVERY TIME - she would!  Just something about staring into the eyes I guess.  It was amazing.

Anyway, can anyone remember who put out that vid?  I've been trying to find out for years!  Thanks.

BLESS YOU, again I say, BLESS YOU, SIR!! :D

(Gee, which is better? the 80's - the decade that gave us all these creative videos? or the late-90's/early '00s, which is giving us message boards like this one to exchange such great info ABOUT the 80's??)

It's a profound question.  One that I will answer right now:

THE 80's!!! 8)

Not sure that this is the video you're thinking of.  In 'Cry' there was a mix of people both male and female, young and old, and they were singing the song.

Having said that I can't think what other video it might have been.

Sadly, Karen, I've been coming to that same conclusion as I've been researching Godley & Creme, and 'Cry', during the past hour or so.  On all these different sites, I keep coming across (as you mentioned) references to both men and women in the video, and its being sort of a morphing thing, and there being a guy dressed as a clown - which is definitely not the video I'm recalling.  The one I saw was just basic cuts - no fades or blending - and only late teen & early 20-something girls, not singing, just standing there in close-up.  The simplest video imaginable...  And I'm certain it was very *late* 80's or early 90's...

Oh well, the hunt continues then! :)  But thanks, Henrik, for giving it a good try!  I appreciate it.

At first I thought it was "Cry" as well. But I *do* remember the video you are talking about - just not the name of the song of the artist! LOL

I'm sure someone else will be more help...
