Subject: Favorite 80s Sitcom

Written By: Indy Gent on 05/20/03 at 11:16 p.m.

What was your favorite sitcom of the 80s? I guess Cheers, The Cosby Show and Family Ties would be on most people's list? I like those plus Seinfeld (which premiered in 1989) and Home Improvement.

As sitcoms?! Well, I suppose if they made you laugh.

Mine would be Cheers, Family Ties and Night Court.

Fantasy Island and the Love Boat were great, but the most dramatic of all the sitcoms was The Banana Splits ;D

Hell yeah! Married With Children all the way! Kelly Bundy was the kind of chick I would chase around school in hopes to get laid after a raging Addicts show. Of course, I would come back to a blue-collar family like in Roseanne and... so did everyone else including the hot blonde I had the hots for.

My fave 80s sitcom is most definitely The Golden Girls! That household of estrogen-deprived ladies was too hilarious!!!  ;D

My favourites were (and still are):

Married...With Children, Cheers, Night Court, and The Golden Girls.

Oh, and back then I watched The Cosby Show and Family Ties religiously. I cried during the final Family Ties episode!

Absolutely Vile

I liked Three's Company, Married w/ Children, Roseanne, Golden Girls & Family Ties.  I guess The Wonder Years wasn't really a "sitcom" huh? Nevertheless, I loved that show too.  :)

Btw:  I couldn't STAND "Cheers"  >:(

M*A*S*H followed closely by Family Ties even though I never payed much attention to the latter until it reached syndication.

Speaking of M*A*S*H I just received the first season on DVD and am watching it now...Wooohooo...!

Correct Wildone, it was a comedy/drama like The Wonder Years. No laugh tracks just good writers about a great era! (No reality TV-sorry Dagwood, had to put that in heh  :P)

I loved:

1. The Cosby show ** (feel good/refreshing sitcom) THE BEST!!

2. Perfect strangers ** (same as above; The dance of joy was hilarious)... "Don't be ridiculous"- Balki.

3. Threes company ** (I must've had a crush on every girl from that series; John Ritter was excellent at physical humor also.)

4. Different  strokes ** (I wished I lived in that New York mansion they owned; Arnold,Dudley Willis and were my best freinds on T.V.

5. Good Times ** (Absolutely loved it!!   J.J. was hilarious!!...The Evans family made the ghetto a fun place to be!)

6. Silver spoons ** ( same as above. Loved that mansion and that train set that drove through the house..awesome!!)

7. Facts of life ** (funny girls; feel good sitcom, I also had  a crush on Jo and Blair).

8. Wonder years ** ( It wasn't a sitcom, but BOY, It was good!! ... Probably one of the best "dramedies" in T.V history.) It was the pre-"American Dreams". Opening soundtrack was awesome!!..remember: "I'll be your hero..." (Ahh..the memories). ;D :D ;) :)

6. Silver spoons ** ( same as above. Loved that mansion and that train set that drove through the house..awesome!!)

Im going to say #1 Night Court.  I dont think I ever laughed so much at any sitcom before during and after NC ran.

I always liked the character mix...off the wall hilarious judge.....prim and proper defense attorney vs. sleazeball prosecuting attorney....crusty old Jewish lady bailiff paired with tough looking yet tenderhearted guy bailiff......and toss in a reserved court clerk (and his crazy Vietnamese wife)  a ditzy stenographer and who can forget Art the janitor   ;D

#2 has got to be WKRP (partially run in the 80s).  That show definitely had the best comedy writing ever.  Ill never forget the "turkey drop" episode as the funniest single sitcom episode EVER in TV history.  Big Guy:  "As God as my witness I thought turkeys could fly!!!!!"  LOLOLOLOL

Favorite all time show by far is Married...with Children. Peg Bundy was the sexiest woman to ever slink across a TV screen. That's right I said PEG! The mother, not the daughter that everyone else drooled over.

MWC Premiered in 1988, so I guess it's an 80's show.

My close second favorite has to go to Cheers.

I caught the Re-Runs on TNN last year. When I would wake up in the morning they would be on. It was just like the good old days except I would come home from school in the 80's and watch re-run's of Different Strokes. I believe in the late 80's they had re-runs of Different Strokes at about 4:00 p.m. or something. I'm not sure what Channel lt was on back then. God did I just say good old days? I sound old when I say that.

Favorite sitcoms of the 80's:

Its A Different World
Hogan Family
Growing Pains(caught Re-Runs on the Family Channel last year.)
Perfect Strangers
Charles In Charge(Buddy was funny.)
Different Strokes
Facts of life(I haven't gotten to see any re-runs lately.)
Three's company was also on TNN last year too(enjoyed watching that again.)

Those were the good times(not to say life isn't good now.)

My very favourite sitcoms were M*A*S*H and WKRP in Cincinnati.
I'm so glad that the complete MASH episodes are becoming available on DVD, but I wonder what happened with WKRP.  The few reruns I have seen in the past few years have been edited to death!  Anyone else noticed this?  The original background music was dubbed over with some really crappy studio stuff - sometimes even Johnny Fever's voice was dubbed over, like when he was introducing a record.  It makes the shows seem less funny.   :(Must be all about paying royalties for the original music?

Only Fools And Horses

ALF was classic and there were a fair few decent comedies around during the 80s
