I love "Kids in America."  I just recently got that song on a CD so I have been listening to it frequently lately.

Kim still has quite a big following in Europe. These days she works as a garden designer in the UK. She is apparently also about to take part in a UK 'reality TV' programme in which various celebs have to survive at a health farm. I've read various rather unpleasant sounding previews of the series in a UK newspaper all about the treatments they have to endure such as colonal irrigation and such stuff. However, I'll say no more, just in case you're having your tea...! :)

best wishes

I love Kim's version of Kids In America, there was a remake of the song in the recent Digimon Movie.  Don't know the new group but didn't like their cut near as much as Kim's original.  My 2 kids of the 00s decade prefer the Digimon Movie cut over the original by Kim. ??? Any explanations of this phenomenon?

sigh - I still have an old single of hers called Shane.  At the time - like 82/83 I was in complete lust with a guy called Shane and I played this song to death !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was a big fan of Kimmie's back in the day as well. My fave song from hers is the seldom-heard "You Came", one of those forgotten 80s tunes. Good to know she's still carrying on, even if it is on some lame reality show!  :)

My guess would be that the Digimon version is the one they heard first...

Most of the time people tend to prefer the version of songs they hear first.

That's not always true for us adults...but it is for the kids.

'Kids In America' and 'Cambodia' are great songs. I used to like 'Chequered Love' when I was younger, but I find it slightly annoying now! However, my favourite is her cover version of 'You Keep Me Hanging On'. The Supremes version is equally fantastic I must say.

My favourite Kim Wilde songs are:

You Came
Cambodia
Never Trust A Stranger
You Keep Me Hanging On
Can't Get Enough (of your love)
Heaven
Breakin' Away
Shame

Here is the link for Kim Wilde's website, with details of her current recordings:

Good explanation Zena, thanx, I'll rest easy now!  My oldest said Kim's version was "sad".  I think she probably meant soulful, at least it is for me.  The new version is kind of bubble gum.

Aren't all new remakes of songs? ;D

Anyway, I love Kim Wilde.  My best friend in hs & I used to "cruise the strip" whilst blasting it on her mom's top-of-the-line stereo.

"SO 80's"

If you go back in time to the year 1969, you will hear Vanilla Fudge's rendition of "You Keep me hanging on" in pure acid rock.  The Supremes covered the original probably in about 1967.  Rod Stewart covered it as well in the 70s.  That song makes me want to get up and shake!!
