Subject: What is the strangest, bizarrest 80s song or video

Written By: Bobby on 06/11/03 at 03:41 a.m.

I had a think about this because I had just recently listened to a song on my cd called 'Woodpeckers from Space' by The Videokids - it is very strange indeed.

Basically, everybody has heard a song(s) or seen a video that has made them think 'Bloody hell that's a bit daft'.

Send in your replies - everybody has a wierd song/video to share!

Cheers  :D

Hi KayHepburn! :)

Yep! Both were Crazy songs

"Last night I had the strangest dream
I sailed away to China
In a little row boat to find you
And you said you had to get your laundry clean . . ."

I've got to add 'Drowning in Berlin' by The Mobiles - absolutely creepy. Especially with the fairground music half way through the song. The guy with the heart on his face was bizarre as well.

Sledgehammer was definitely strange, and great. I've heard from friends that Gabriel's performance with Genesis in the 70's was also bizarre; he's like a master of disguises.

Thomas Dolby's "Hyperactive" video had a strange scene where a stereotypical psychiatrist is doing word association with a patient on a couch. Both people have cubes instead of heads. An image would appear on the shrink's cube face and a corresponding image would appear on the patien's cube. That was strange, like Wow!

Yes Gamblefish, 'Cry' by Godley and Creme featured, at the time, state of the art morphing techniques - The song was very irritating. Especially at the end where 3 people sang cry in rising tempos.

I have the video to 'Hyperactive' by Thomas Dolby - quite good for the time. He wasn't commercial enough in Britain.

If I remember correctly, 'Reet Petit' by Jackie Wilson had a video created in the same claymation medium. It was very poor compared to 'Star Trekkin' though.

a bizarre video but mostly because it's so crappy and funny, is "It's raining men" by the Weather Girls. Now that's a video that makes me laugh so hard that give me cramps

Duran Duran's "All she wants is" always made me feel a bit confused... i like that video lots but it's so weird! I mean, they go around like dummies and all those artsy color effects, but the epic part is the end when the girl opens the fridge and inside looks like a sanctuary, full of saints and crosses... like it wasn't enough the guys appear holding a glass with a green drink (celery/cucumber? some crazy soda LOL) trying to give her, but she looks quite scared!

and then later she you just see the girl's silhouette in neon, sitting by the table reading the newspaper ( i guess) and eating a bowl of cereal...

I thought of a couple more bizarre songs. First, The Normal. "TVOD" and "Warm Leatherette." "Warm Leatherette" was the first single on Mute Records, and The Normal is actually Daniel Miller who is, and always has been the head of Mute, responsible for such wonderful bands as Depeche Mode, Erasure and ex-Depeche member Alan Wilder's project, Recoil.

Second, "Oh Yeah," "I Love You," "The Race" by Yello. Strange videos indeed.

I remember a Radiohead song (I don't know the title) that had a strange video in the 90s. It involved this guy lying on the pavement and these people were interrogating him to get up, enquiring why he was lying there. He tells everybody eventually and at the end, they are all lying in the road. Quite strange.
