Subject: Duran Duran rip off

Written By: Durania on 06/13/03 at 01:07 p.m.

I got an email sent to me advertising a pre-sale for a Las Vegas show, Duran Duran at The Joint.  And this was also in the email:

But that's not all! You want something a little more? Well, we can offer you something A LOT more!

Interested in taking off to Vegas and attending an EXCLUSIVE V.I.P. party with Duran Duran before getting geared up for the show? Check out the details below to see what the Crime and Passion Duran Duran Travel Package has to offer…

GET PASSIONATE IN THE CITY OF SIN!

The Crime and Passion Duran Duran Travel Package Las Vegas, NV(July 18-20th):

More like where America meets "edgy": accommodations at Mandalay Bay where the gaming environment is laden with tropical lush foliage, flowing water, and dynamic architecture. Ooh la la

Hungry like the Wolf? Save room for the free Breakfast!

An Ordinary World? Not at this V.I.P. party where you'll meet Duran Duran! The Wild Boys are ready to party and spend time with this exclusive crew!

Lava Lamp? Not quite, but you'll get some pretty cool stuff, like an autographed item from the band, a VIP laminate, and other goodies.

The Chauffeur? Yes, ground transportation between the hotel and venue.

The Big Thing? Of course, you'll receive a ticket (it's a general admission show). But with this package, you'll receive preferred arrangements at the show!

Sing Blue Silver? Hmmm…well, unfortunately you won't be singing Duran Duran on a blue-silver jet provided by us; all flights and travel to and from Las Vegas are not included in this package.

Sounds great, eh?  A Durannies dream trip.  And it just so happens, my best friend is going thru a divorce, and just happens to be a huge fan also.  So I'm thinking "This would be a great trip for us!"   So I did more digging, and found the following:

$1895 or $1995 PER PERSON depending on room size.  OMG!  You've got to be KIDDING me!  Adding it up, the hotel is $200+/night.  The tickets, if bought normally are $75 each.  Let's be generous and say that the cab fare to and from the venue would cost you $50 total.  This adds up roughly to $600.  This means that you would basically be paying between $1000 and $1400 JUST to meet the band.   OMG!  I am speechless.  I love DD, I've been an avid fan since 1981, but I just cant see myself paying that much, no matter the fact that it's been a lifelong dream.  Seems to me that an ego check is in order.  It's not really the money...heck, I've got plenty enough in savings that that amount wouldnt seriously be missed...but dang!  Not in this lifetime!

Very disappointed  :'( :-[

:o After spending all that money I'd have no money left to hit the casinos with. What's a trip to Vegas without gambling? I don't know but I know I'm not going there until I turn 21.

I love Duran Duran and as cool as it would be to meet them, seeing them perform where I live will be enough for me. :)

The little people, us po' folks are not an issue to big fancy-shmancy corporate/studio execs or whoever/whomever prepares these elaborate packages. The band itself is to blame too for not having enough sense to stop the madness.

I like Duran Duran and all but geez. Greee-dy.
