Subject: Is Spinal Tap a real band?

A simple yes or no will suffice, but an explanation of your opinion would be even better!  I say no, but I have a friend who says yes.  If you feel I'm wrong, please enlighten me...Thanks!

Spinal Tap was a movie about a fictitious heavy metal band. Because the actors wrote and played all the songs on the album and the movie proved so popular, they decided to do another album and subsequent tour a few years later...so NO they weren't a band but YES they became one!

Does that make sense?

The original Spinal Tap album is the soundtrack to the movie and is called This Is Spinal Tap...the 2nd album is called "Break Like The Wind"...

Hi Jmebonner!

Spinal Tap was a great movie!

They were a mock band initially but they did hit the British Chart twice in 1992! 'Bitch School' got to No 35 and 'The Majesty of Rock' got to 61.

Hope that's helped.  :)

That's really interesting. The title changed in my last post to 'pregnant dog school' - Would anyone get what the song was called from that? That was the title of the song.

LOL, that was REALLY funny!!! pregnant dog school, hahaha, I'm still chuckling.  I have the movie, and I loved it, but I still say "not a real band"  Just like that movie w/ Tom Hanks, I think it was "That thing you do" or something.  Yeah, it had music and a band and stuff, but that doesn't mean they're a real band...

i don't think i'd consider them a real BAND, but they're real musicians.  does that make sense?

the christopher guest/michael mckean/harry shearer combo has gone on to make some other movies, most recently A Mighty Wind, where they mock at folk music.  (great movie, btw)

and you probably all know harry shearer as the voice of 372837 Simpsons characters. :)

Thin line...

On the other hand, I would consider them a "band".  They had songs that landed on a chart, they performed live as a band and received airplay as a band, so I'd say they were a band.

My whole family and I must be the only people in the universe to hate this movie. It didn't make any sense to me. And the ST lyrics are stupid, not funny. But that's IMHO.

:)

If you've ever been involved in the music industry in any way, this is more of a documentary than a comedy. It's a shame you don't like it, because it's really a great film.
