Subject: 80s hats

Ok, here goes, I'm trying to figure out the name of a semi-popular hat. It's kind of like a top hat, but short. I know George Michaels wore one, and Corey Haim. I think maybe a New Kid or two. If anyone knows PLEASE help me out.

Sort of like a derby hat but square at the top instead of rounded?

I use to wear a hat...I think it's called a Bolero Hat (though I could be way off!!).  It's like the one Boy George wore.  Thank Gawd I got over that "fashion" statement.

If it's the Boy George type, i guess i've have the answer for you! here it goes from an interview:

"ML:So, I've read that your trademark hats started out as a lucky charm. Can you tell me about how that all happened?

BG: When I first started Culture Club, Jon the drummer -- my boyfriend -- bought me a Hasidic hat for my birthday. You know, one of the ones worn by the orthodox Jews. It became a trademark really. Also, unfortunately I've inherited my mother's thin hair. Hats are a lot easier than spending hours trying to get your hair straight. Hats hide a multitude of sins!

ML: Where do you buy them now?

BG: All of my hats are made by an Irishman named Philip Tracey. He has a store in London and I get all my hats from him."

from what i remember the 'bolero hat' came a bit later, late 80s /early 90s, that type is just awful!
but Boy george's hasidic hat is pretty cool, IMO!!!

try to search on ebay, religious stores too.. I'm not sure, I Hope this helps...good luck!
