Subject: Girls Just Want To Have Fun

Hi,  I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if the song "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper is from the movie by the same name?

I don't think so.  The movie by the same name came out in 1985 and I believe the song was released in late 1983 or early 1984.  In fact I think it may have first appeared in the movie "The Goonies".

Cyndi Lauper did not sing the song in the movie. I'm not too sure who did.

That song was the first single from her 1983 "She's So Unusual" debut album.  The single was huge in the spring of '84.

Another piece of trivia on that song...Cyndi did not write it, Robert Hazard, who was huge in Philly at the time with his own band, wrote it in 1979 and recorded a demo of it, but his version was never released.  There was some really bad blood between the two of them because he felt she took too much credit for the song and she expected him to sign over the rights to it to her.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun was in the movie Night of the Comet which came out in 1984. It was in the scene where Reggie and Sam are in the mall shopping . I love this movie and I don't think its available on VHS or DVD yet. I don't know why. It's a great 80s movie in my book.I got it off of ebay.
