Written By: alexis_ss on 07/14/03 at 11:46 a.m.

Hi My name is Alexis.  And at my school we always have 80's day and i never know what to wear. And well last year i had an idea that i got from that VH1 show i love the 80's.  it was a kinda madona type thing. I crimped my hair and then teased it wicked bad it was soo hard to get undone that night needless to say and i had the black mini and the bright purple shirt with lace sleeves and white gloves with the fingers cut off. and the bangel braclets and all the necklaces.  well this year i want to be comfortable and i need some ideas .  Like i had heard about acid wash jeans and how you can do it your self so if any one knows how to do that i would love your help.  but i also need help on a top now and a hair idea and shoes i saw these pink shoes at payless that look like the converse but do you think i should go with the real thing or what should i do.  If any one has any idea please please please fill me in. I know like somethings about the 80's i know i was named after a soap opera charecter.  oh well peace

Athletic gear was popular-as a fashion statement. Leg warmers worn over pants, sweat bands on the head and wrist. Even ankle weights were popular. Some movies to watch to get some ideas are Flashdance, Valley Girl, and Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Those three movies should give you some ideas.

Hey Cat,

You aren't telling her to watch Fast Times at Ridgemont High, are you? The girl will probably stop going to school if she does that and start smoking and looking for a burger joint to work at.  ;D ;D But it was a very good movie... especially the bathroom scene with Judge Rinehold.

Okay, what to wear for an 80's night that is comfortable. I think the one thing that says 80's more than ANYTHING is big hair. The bigger the better!! Puff it up and get your bangs (banks, whatever it is called), to stick up and out and back down. Use lots of hairspray, your brush, and a blow drier. Hair is what made the 80's. Spend your time there. For clothing, get a loud color. I seem to remember girls LOVING purple in the 80s.

Yes, gotta have the big bangs! Tight fitting jeans also. For acid wash jeans use bleach.
