Subject: Andrew Dice Clay and Sam Kinison

Written By: zippo on 07/14/03 at 08:35 p.m.

Remember these comedians?

I liked them both a lot.

Dice is all washed up now.  Not funny anymore.

He needs new comedy writers.

Sam Kinison is dead and gone.  Killed by a drunk driver.  Poor guy.

Two once great 80's comics.  Who a lot of folks didn't like.

Sam Kinison is great ;D  I wanna pull his Vegas special routine on ex-girlfriends, that was truly one of the greatest things I had ever seen.

The Dice Man appears on VH-1's "I Love The 80's" show.

Yeah, I saw Dice on VH1.

He looks a bit hefty.

He needs to limit himself to 1000 calories a day.  So he can be svelt again.

Dice is hillarious! Remember "The Hour Back song"? Hour back....get it? Ill be back......in an hour....get it?  And of course the rhymes.....Old mother hubbard went to the cupboard to get her ol dog a bone......you know the rest!!!!

Sam Kinison is awesome too! I remember his appearence on "Married with Children" for the Christmas special. "My wife gained 100 pounds for every year we were married. We had 2 kids......I think......she ate 'em.....I dont know."

Too bad he is gone, he was a great comedian!

One of my favorite christmas episodes of all time.

I liked the "Wild Thing" cover he did during the late '80's.
With the video that featured Jessica Hahn.
(I think it was from around 1988/1989.)

When I was younger I thought Dice was hallarious. I loved his movie "Adventures of Ford Fairlain", and his nursery rhymes. However, I now understand why many groups thought he was offensive.

Modified to add: What was that drink he had in "Ford", was it a flaming ___?

Subject: Re: Andrew Dice Clay and Sam Kinison

Written By: zippo on 07/16/03 at 01:24 p.m.

Yep.

Ford Fairlane, that movie killed Dice.

And his hair all falling out didn't help.

Now he works at the Stardust hotel in Vegas.  Which is a nice hotel but kinda run down looking.  It needs a makeover.

Ford Fairlane had Daniel Waters writing the script, Renny Harlan directing and an up and coming Dice in the lead.

And man, did it bomb!  Dice had to use lines from his act to punch up the movie script!

I hate to say it, but when I first saw the movie I laughed my rear off. It was just too funny. Like the line where Dice wakes up with a beautiful woman, and she says "But Dice, I just wanted to be held", and Dice replies "You got the bonus package".

Personally I couldn't stand either of them.

If I had to pick one though it would be Sam Kinison.  He could be funny when he wasn't screaming all the time.

Of course I'm one of the few people who never thought Eddie Murphy was all that funny.

Hated Dice, but looooved Sam Kinison!  Saw him live in his own show and at the June 89 Bon Jovi concert at Giants Stadium in NJ.  He MC'd it, needless to say, it was a crazy 80's night!!!

Eddie murphy is a person in a gerbel costume falling down a flight of stairs compared to Dice Clay, who was nothing but a sexist unfunny jerk who somehow breifly glimpsed into the most pitiful parts of the male psyche and tried (but failed) to make it into comedy. I feel sorry for anyone who every cracked a smile at that disgusting excuse for humanity.

Well,

Even old Dice fans like me think his act is the pits now.

He just looks like some crazy old man doing the same old jokes!

But that line of Dice's saying "you got the bonus plan" was a line from his stand up act.

Like I said, he felt the need to add a few jokes of his own to punch up the crummy script.

I heard rumors of Ford Fairlane II a while ago.

Dice did a funny bit in the movie One Night At McCool's.  In a dual role.  That was a funny, weird movie.

Just to see Dice as a gun toting Mormon, heh-heh, you'll laff yer yambag off, ya hear?

I remember when ADC raised a lot of controversy with his sexist slant act.  I like raunchy humour (hey, I thought the South Park movie was hilarious   :) ) but I didn't think his was that good.  Now, at around the same time, I saw Tim Allen do "Men Are Pigs" on HBO before his tv series came about.  I thought THAT was hilarious!  :D

Sam Kinison, that was tragic.  He had just cleaned up and had turned his life around only to be struck down.  :(  Kinda like Stevie Ray Vaughn.

There was another movie Dice did in the 80' swhich was not offensive and was kinda good. It was called "Brain Smashers, a Love Story". The details are fuzzy, but I think he had to protect some woman. Too bad he had to ruin his carreer the way he did.

I think it co starred Terri Hatcher. I like him when he doesn't play the lead role in a movie. Like someone mentioned before, he was funny in One Night At McCools.

Let the flags fly for Sam Kinison.  My dad and I listen to him whenever we have long trips, and we laugh our ing off, he is that ing funny.

The drunk driver thing is sad, and particularly ironic.  One of Sam's CD's has a segment that defends drunk drivers.  Another segment defended unsafe sex.  ("Look, if you don't trust the p****, what are you doing f***ing the p****?")  And that was the first segment.  And it just kept getting more outrageous from there.  But it never stopped being funny.

The man was also truly a poet about love.

Quoting:I was married twice. Then I said, 'Hey, you know, I bet if I become more sensitive, and a better f---, I won't have to give away everything I own every five f---ing years!End Quote

Sam Kinison's "OHHHHHH!" trumps Dice's "Oh!" every day of the week.

I never cared much for Dice.  He really never made me laugh (just like Seinfeld even though they are on either end of the spectrum, IMO).  Plus, I hate his arrogant Brooklynese accent and hes such a know-it-all.

Now on the other hand.  Sam Kinison was funny sometimes and I do say SOMETIMES.  A lot of the time he totally lost me but others I LOLed.  Who can forget his small role in "Back To School" as a bipolar, posessed history professor.   ;D

The Marx Brothers are funny, Laurel and Hardy, Bob Newhart, Monty Python, Bill Cosby, George Carlin, Rowin Attkinson, sometimes Eddie Murphy, is funny.
I have read the above, "rhyme" and all the others posted here multiple times now, and I don't think it, or anything the man has ever done was even remotly amusing never mind hillarious or funy.

I'll explain it to you after I explain to you how to "Reply with quote":  after you click on "Rwq" and the prior poster's quote comes into your message box, leave the brackets alone and type your comment after the {/quote} in square brackets, OK?

It works because it plays with the convention of supposedly sweet and wholesome nursery rhymes and turns it on its ear.  It also acknowledges how oddly suggestive some of these rhymes and nursery stories are when you look at them in retrospect.

There is a long tradition of taking childhood stories and twisting them into something adult.  Perhaps you are familiar with the "Fractured Fairy Tales" parodies from Jay Ward's Rocky and Bullwinkle show?

Dirty nursery rhymes may not constitute the most sophisticated form of humor, but the routine was original and inventive in its day, just as George Carlin's "Seven Words You Can't Say On Television" was in its day.

Thank you for your reply.  I guess in the end that explains why I don't find him funny.  Swear words and obsenities to me aren't funny.  I won't go into that unless you want me to, becuase I really don't want to come off as insulting anyone here and my views on people who use a lot of swear words can do that.
As for Carlin's "Seven Words You Can't Say On Television", I always thought that was one of his least funny and rather uninspired bits.  An interesting political commentary, perhaps.  But not funny.
But again, thank you for your well thought out reply, it does give me a better understanding.
But I still don't get it.

Sam, loved the guy.

Dice, won't say I hated him...but I got pretty tired of the racist jokes. Doesn't help I'm asian.

But both these guys definitely shared one thing: They were both "shock comics". While Sam Kinison's stand up was very funny, it was his bug eyed exclamations he was known for ("AHHHHHH!!!! AHHHH!!!!")

Same with Dice, but instead of surprising you...he would just say the most ofensive thing he could think of. Personally, I don't think Dice is particularly racist or even sexist...but hey, it paid his bills right?

Either way, it's sad that neither of these guys are entertaining us anymore...there are so many comedians these days that suck tremendously (Carrot Top comes to mind). I'm not that old, but give me some old Robin Williams, Richard Pryor or George Carlin performances any day!
