Subject: Songs from bands you hate that you actually like

Written By: Bobby on 07/26/03 at 08:08 a.m.

Credit goes to Absolutely Vile for this turnaround on her previous thread.  :)

As well as admitting you hate certain songs from your favourite bands, it's difficult to admit that you like a song from a band that you dislike. For example, you hear a song you like on the radio only to find it's from a band you wouldn't have given a thought about.

Let's get those opinions going.   :D

The lead singer's voice in the band Rush reeeally grates on my nerves for some reason. Thus, I avoid anything by them like the plague. Plus, their "Tom Sawyer" hit is severely overplayed in classic rock stations. :P

I don't know if I'd go as far as to say I hate Rush, but I do like their tune "Fly By Night". :)

Edited:Or is it "Flight By Night"?

"Running Up That Hill" Kate Bush
"Institutionalized" Suicidal Tendencies
"I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" Whitney Houston
"Seventeen" Winger
"Locomotion" Kylie Minogue
and that overly catchy "Cant Get You Out Of My Head" from 2002.

Awwww, thanks. ;) This is a great spin on it!! ;D

My choices are (and I feel I'm very brave for admitting some of these):

Rush - Subdivisions
Public Image Limited (PiL) - Rise
Supertramp - The Logical Song
(Paul McCartney and) Wings - Take It Away

Oh, I know there has to be tons more, but I've drawn a blank. I'll post when I think of more. :D

That's o.k Vile.  :)

I like 'Running up that hill' by Kate Bush and 'Rise' by P.I.L (Public Image ltd). They were good songs.

I ought to put mine forward.

Love stinks J Geils band

Hello Vile.

Tee hee! I'm not a big Smiths fan because I found them too depressing. Oddly enough, I liked Morrisey (especially the song 'Suedehead').

Thanks for forgiving me.  ;D

The Smiths are not depressing, they're uplifting and honest. :) I guess it just depends on how you interpret Morrissey's lyrics though!

You don't find solo Morrissey's lyrics depressing? Even the earlier stuff (1988-1994)? Hmmmm. I don't really find a lot of it much different than The Smiths. He might have gotten a bit happier, but not much, I think. Weird. :D

You're welcome. :D

I think it was because I heard his solo stuff first. Suedehead was the first song I heard back in 88/89. It evokes memories . . .

I think I got into Morrissey first as a fan, then got into The Smiths...then found myself preferring The Smiths over solo Morrissey. I love some of his solo stuff still, my favourite being "November Spawned A Monster." :D

In retrospect, the bold "s" didn't look too effective. I should have maybe underlined it or made it glow. ;D I'm glad you noticed though. :D

Here are a few of my votes:

Time - by Culture Club
Cum On Feel The Noize - Quiet Riot
Runaway - Bon Jovi
Everyday is Like Sunday - Morrisey* (I like the Smiths...not Morrisey's solo crap)

Oh come on...Morrissey's early solo stuff isn't so bad. (Mind you, it has lost a lot of its heart and feelings of despair and lonliness.) It's just when you get to songs like "Roy's Keen" that you start to go, "eeeeeeeeew..." ;D

I'm sure there are tons more, but these are the three that I can remember off the top of my head.

This Is Not A Love Song by P.I.L. for reasons I don't fully understand.

Welcome To The Jungle by Guns'n'Roses, the only song of their's that doesn't make me want to throw the radio out the nearest window....after shooting it.

Round And Round by Ratt, it gets stuck in my head just thinking about it.
