YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I'm the first one to post!!! Thank you SOOOOOOO much for starting this topic!!!!!!

OK before I start hyperventilating, here is my list, in no particular order, because most of their songs are wonderful. (I could do a Top 100 too if I gave it some thought!!).

My Top Ten favourite 'Peche Mode songs are:

10. Get The Balance Right!
9. Leave In Silence
8. People Are People
7. Blasphemous Rumours
6. Enjoy The Silence
5. Everything Counts
4. Shake The Disease
3. A Question Of Lust
2. Somebody
1. Master And Servant

This was really hard, because each song is great. I could have gone on!! There are too many great songs to pick just ten, but those ones are pretty much my most favourite and most listened to.

I'd put that in a Top 20. It's just a fluffy pop song that was mainly written (and recorded in a day) for the film Modern Girls. It was then included on Black Celebration as the last track on the album. It's still pretty good though. :D

"But Not Tonight" was released in America as an A-side instead of "Stripped," which Depeche Mode were not happy about, since they did more work on "Stripped." This is why they've never performed it live. These days, if you can find the film Modern Girls, you'll find that "Stripped" is now in the place of "But Not Tonight."

Likely to be one of the few "newer" fans here. LOVED their music in the 90's!

1. Enjoy the silence
2. It's no good
3. I feel you
4. Personal Jesus
5. Walking in my shoes
6. Barrel of a gun
7. Dream on
8. Policy of truth
9. People are people
10. World in my eyes

"People Are People" is from the album Some Great Reward (most probably my favourite Depeche Mode album), released in 1984. ;D

Ok, I'll give you mine in case you were wondering.

10. Happiness Girl
9. Enjoy the Silence
8. Dangerous
7.  People are People
6.  I Feel You
5. Never let me Down
4. Question of Time
3. Everything Counts
2. Pleasure Little Treasure
1. Behind the Wheel

This is one of a few 80's Synth bands that sound just as good live as recorded.  That should be another topic.  "What band sounded great recorded that you had to see live, and the sound let you down"  Mine would be New Order.

07. Tomorrow's Dance
06. The Price Of Love

The same could be said for Depeche Mode. They can be rather hit or miss live, from some of the recordings I've heard. However, the opposite can be said as well; the live versions of some of their songs are better than the original recorded ones! For example, the song "Photographic" (from Speak & Spell) sounds a bit wimpy on the record, but when they did it live, it sounded really good!! Almost as good as the Some Bizarre version. :D

Bit harsh  on Depeche Mode, especially as "Black Celebration" is a class album, but I also find it very hard to come up with ten quality Depeche Mode tunes

1. Black Celebration
2. Stripped
3. People Are People
4. Just Can't Get Enough
5. Enjoy The Silence

6-10. Struggling even though there are some decent tunes on "Black Celebration", none really stick in my mind as being that good. Black Celebration and Stripped are top quality tunes though........

What about "Fly On The Windscreen - Final?" Or "New Dress?" Or "A Question Of Lust?" Or...or...or...any song from Black Celebration? ;D

A great album that I'd shelved for far too long before giving it another listen. Now I love it. There really aren't any songs that I don't like on it, although "Dressed In Black" might have been better off sung by Martin. :)

I have to say that to me personally they reached their pinnacle with Violator. There aren’t any other albums in Depeche Mode’s catalog that taken in their entirety, can stand along side that masterpiece. So even though there are only 9 songs on the album they stand together as my top 10.

But….being a long time fan I’d have to say that from their earlier work these are my favorites. (in no particular order).

Just Can’t Get Enough
Everything Counts
Lie to Me
Something to Do
Fly on the Windscreen
Flexible
Never Let Me Down Again
Pimf

I have a hard time coming up with these top 10 lists so you’ll have to excuse my not keeping with the thread topic exactly.

Not even Black Celebration? That's probably my favourite Mode album, with Some Great Reward a close second. Violator is good, yes, but it ended up being a huge album with huge "hits" like "Personal Jesus"...which I love, by the way... It's just that I tend to go for the underrated stuff more than the big hits. Ironically, "Enjoy The Silence," I would say, is probably my favourite song from Violator. :)

I agree it's not one of their best songs (as far as songs go) but it I've added it to my favorites because I have such fond memories of dancing to it out at the clubs when I was a youngster!

Well, it's one of their more tolerable "bad songs." :) Could be worse though. You could have fond memories of songs like "Boys Say Go!," "What's Your Name?," or "Work Hard." Those songs basically just crack me up. :D

That's so funny!

I actually have to laugh because when I read "Work Hard", I was reminded of Ministry's first album "With Sympathy" containing the song "Work For Love" along with all the other bad synth-pop and rap type stuff on that album. I’m sooo glad they went Industrial.

It's definitely worth listening to. Even if it's just for the benefit of further educating yourself in the early alt-music scenes. I wouldn't recommend buying it though. Effigy, the first track is the most tolerable. I suppose it could even work on the dance floor today during a retro night or even from an adventurous DJ with an open minded crowd. The best is the pretty boy popster photo of Al Jourgensen. Wow, now that's kind of funny! Nothing like the long haired, bearded, cowboy hat wearing scarry monster he turned into (Yes he did it before Rob Zombie)
