These 80s bands are my favourite. . .

Madness- Initially a Ska based band from London. Created classics like 'House of fun','Uncle Sam','One step beyond' and 'Our house'.
http://www.madness.co.uk/home_frame.html

Pet shop boys - Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe. A chance encounter created a magical pop group. 'It's a sin','Suburbia','Always on my mind' (the best cover song ever) and 'Opportunities (let's make lots of money)'.
http://www.petshopboys.co.uk/

Erasure - Andy Bell and Vince Clark. Since 1985, they have created some amazing synth stuff. 'Oh L'amour','Ship of fools','Stop' and 'Reunion' are wonderful. A few months ago I went to a concert of theirs at the Plymouth Pavillions and they were brilliant.

The Go Go's were an all female band from the early '80's fronted by Belinda Carlisle.

They had hits with  some memorable songs like: "We Got The Beat", "Our Lips Are Sealed", and "Vacation".

They split up in 1985. Belinda Carlisle and Jane Wiedlin (Go Go's bass player) persued solo careers.

They reunited a few years ago and  released an album two years ago.

IMHO (it's all true, though ;) )

(1) Oingo Boingo-But of course! :)

(2) Clan of Xymox-Great for the "moody" days

(3) Rush-Neil Peart, the best drummer/lyricist EVER.

Close fourth, fifth...

Depeche Mode-"Music for the Masses"-'Nuff said!
U2-"The Joshua Tree", not a bad song on it.
The Cure-I think "Disintegration" has to be the most memory-jarring, flashback-inducing album for me.
Gary Numan-STILL putting out great music, very "darkwave" now-I like it.
Sisters of Mercy-Gotta love the heavy, driving goth stuff.
Front 242-what can I say, the godfathers of "old school" industrial
Pet Shop Boys-"Please" is their all-time best.
Nitzer Ebb-Up there with 242, great stuff from my Detroit "City Club" Days
Ministry-I like all of it, from the early "With Sympathy" onward.
Moev-Good "poppy" industrial
Camouflage-REALLY liked "The Great Commandment"
Duran Duran-Simpy the '80's in the form of music
Frontline Assembly-More good, old industrial.
38 Special-The closest I ever came to liking "country"
Split Enz-"I Got You", GREAT tune
Donnie Iris-"Ah Leah","Do You Compute?" EXCELLENT

-To name a few.

I'd say Rush, but I guess it's safe to put them in the 70s category.  They're probably one of my all time favorite bands.  I like that they sing about stuff other than sex, girls, drugs, and parties and stuff.  And I wish I could sing like Geddy Lee!
