Subject: 1980s one-hit BANDS that were good

Written By: lyron on 08/07/03 at 12:35 a.m.

Let's start another, related topic:

In reading (and responding) to the topic:
"One hit wonders that were GOOD"
I misunderstood.  I originally read it to mean, "One hit wonders that
were actually good bands that had other good songs", which is why I
included my responses of:

- Cutting Crew, whose album 'Broadcast' was very good (notable songs in
addition to the radio hit "I Just Died In Your Arms" were "One For The
Mockingbird", "Any Colour", and "I've Been In Love Before"

- and Katrina and The Waves (other cool songs, "Do You Want Crying" and
"Going Down To Liverpool", a Bangles' cover).

I'll add:

- Robbie Nevil (C'est La Vie was the hit), but the album '' was pretty cool,
in particular 'Dominoes'

- Glass Tiger
Popular song: "Don't Forget Me When I'm Gone" (with Bryan Adams)
Less popular: "Someday"

This type of 'discovery' usually occured when I bought or borrowed the album
and listened to the whole thing, only to find that the band/album really was
pretty darned good.

While I'm at it, I'll disagree with some of the one-hit wonders, as did Absolutely
Vile and Vapor Trails, since they had other songs of moderate popularity.  While
some of these songs weren't enough to be considered hits, they were on enough to
have had a video created for them:

Talk Talk -
They also had the song 'Talk Talk' (from the album 'Talk Talk')
> "Living In A Box" is a song by...yep, you guessed it...Living In A Box
I think off the album "Living In A Box"
Planet P - Why Me
Also had 'Static' from the same album
Electric Avenue by Eddie Grant
'Romancing the Stone' (soundtrack from movie)
Spandau Ballet "True"
They also had minor airplay with 'Instinction' and 'Gold'
Madness "Our House"
     'House of Fun'
Saga - On The Loose
     'Wind Him Up'
Men Without Hats - Safety Dance
Someone mentioned 'Pop Goes The World', but remember also "Living In China"
Outfield - Your Love
     Several other songs
Level 42 - Something About You
     'Lessons In Love'
Georgia Satellites - Keep Your Hands To Yourself
     'Battleship Chains' and 'Railroad Steel'
Chris DeBurgh - Lady In Red
     'Don't Pay The Ferryman'
Hooters - "All You Zombies"
     'And We Danced'
