Subject: Off Topic: Does Anyone Have XM Satellite Radio?

Written By: EightiesMusicDJ on 08/09/03 at 08:45 p.m.

i've had it for about a year and a half now and I LOVE it. the 80's channel is awesome. It's about the only channel I listen too. I listen to the others, but 80's on 8 brings back a lot of memories. it's what I remember top 40 radio being..

Allright!  I don't have it but a friend of mine does.  He won't go back to regular FM.  He does extensive travelling and hates it when he travels out of range of his favourite radio station.  With XM he doesn't get that.  He experiences a little bit of rain-fade but generally gets excellent reception.  I've been thinking of getting a subscription next year after I finish school.

Does that 80's channel have commercials?  I'm told it doesn't.

it does have commercials, but you hardly notice them..they might play one or two, then go straight to the music.  it's HARDLY noticeable.  i'll take XM over FM anyday. like I said earlier, it's how FM used to be..

I agree.  I was thinking of buying some shares in XM on the next public offering.  They have passed the 500,000 subscriber mark and I believe this is going to be a big area in commercial broadcasting.

Another sevice you may want to consider is Sirius, they have no commercials at all, and their 80's channel is pretty good (although I prefer the 80's alt channel "1st Wave"). The only caveat is that Sirius is $12 a month, which is more expensive then XM.

Yeah, I heard of Sirius but I haven't actually listened to them.  I have just recently read that they are struggling financially and having difficulty scrounging up subscribers.  Which is strange since they are commercial free... I'd pay more for that type of service!

By the way, I like your handle.  Do you work for British Airways?  ;)

No, I started using that handle after I saw the Concorde live in Oshkosh (A huge aviation event here in the US put on by the Experimental Aircraft Assoc.). I was very impressed with the aircraft, but no don't work for BA, I'm not even British. Wow, now we're getting even further off topic!

You're right, I am getting off topic here.  I'm an aviation enthusiast myself and I couldn't help but notice the callsign.  I know about the Oshkosh event.  There's been lots of pics posted on the alt.binaries.aviation newsgroup... many Concorde pics lately.
