Written By: mitchie on 08/30/03 at 03:19 a.m.

I only know a couple of lyrics....

"Don't you know that diamonds are a  girls best friend..."

and

"Talk about your lover/mother, talk about your kid, love don't come for free"

It's not much but if someone could help me thanks!

Herb Alpert - Diamonds?

Ugh, ugh

You tell me you love me, you tell me you care
But when I'm around you, it's like I'm not there
I need a reminder, something I can see
Something on my finger that shines so brightly

Don't you know diamonds are a girl's best friend
When you go they stay with you until the end
Don't you know diamonds are a girl's best friend
When you go they stay with you until the end

Don't want your money, don't want your key
(Diamonds) Love don't come for free
Don't want your money, don't want your key
(Diamonds) Love don't come for free

You send me some roses, but roses do die
You gave me some candy, it melted, nice try
I'm not demandin', I have simple taste
I just want a token that won't go to waste

(Diamonds)

Da, da, da, da, da, woo, ah
Hirns blow
Da, da, da, da, da, da, da

Don't want your money, don't want your key
(Diamonds) Love don't come for free
Don't want your money, don't want your key
(Diamonds) Love don't come for free

Don't you know diamonds are a girl's best friend
When you go they stay with you until the end
Don't you know diamonds are a girl's best friend
When you go they stay with you until the end

Don't want your money, don't want your key
(Diamonds) Love don't come for free
Don't want your money, don't want your key
(Diamonds) Love don't come for free

Don't want your money, don't want your key
(Diamonds) Love don't come for free
Don't want your money, don't want your key
(Diamonds) Love don't come for free

Don't throw in that towel
Wait a minute
Let's do the next song

Could it possibly be Janet Jackson's "Diamonds?"

Here are the lyrics:

Diamonds

You tell me you love me
You tell me you care
But when I'm around you
It's like I'm not there
I need a reminder
Something can see
Something on my finger
Shining so brightly

Don't you know
Diamonds are a girls' best friend
When you go
They stay with me until the end
Don't you know
Diamonds are a girls' best - best friend
When you go
They stay with me until the end

Don't want your money
Don't want your key
Diamonds
Love don't come for free
Don't want your money
Don't want your key
Diamonds
Love don't come for free

You sent me some roses
But roses do die
You gave me some candy
It melted - nice try
I'm not that demanding
I have simple taste
I just want a token
That can't go to waste
Diamonds

Don't you know
Diamonds are a girls' best friend
When you go
They stay with me until the end
Don't you know
Diamonds are a girls' best - best friend
When you go
They stay with me until the end

There are a couple of lines you talked about which sound very similar to what's in the song (i.e.: "Talk about your mother/lover, talk about your kid" sounds a lot like "Don't want your money, don't want your key.") :D

Wait a minute... I just realised something. My suggestion has the same lyrics as Bobo's!! Only mine is Janet Jackson, not Herb Alpert... I'm confused... ???

Can't see a version by Janet Jackson anywhere online... strange..

Edit: Presumably on the album All For You..?

Weird!!! I did a Google search for those lyrics and came up with the exact same song (pretty much) as you, but where I was looking(http://www.lyricsxp.com/lyrics/d/diamonds_janet_jackson.html), it said it was by Janet Jackson!! But I can't find that song on any discography. ???

OK...now I'm REALLY confused!!!! :D

Once again, I have solved the mystery!!!!!! I have waaaayyyy too much time on my hands...;D

Anyway, here's the info I found, from http://fnagenda.virtualave.net/frame.html :

Herb Alpert, Keep Your Eye On Me: 1987; Janet and Lisa Keith on the song Diamonds, which was released as a single in the Spring of 1987. It peaked at #5 on Billboard's pop chart and remained on the chart for 12 weeks. "Diamonds" was also #1 on the R&B singles chart for 2 weeks. It was also #1 on the Dance charts. The song was released after Control's (1986) "Let's Wait Awhile" and before "The Pleasure Principle."

So, we're both right, Bobo!! ;D

Yeah, the album is 'Herb Alpert - Keep Your Eye on Me', which is pretty good. I still have the cassette from back when it came out.
