:)
I would really like to hear your opinions on the band "Journey"

You won't get an argument from me regardless of how you see it. I'm just interested views from folks who seem to really be in the know, musicially.

"open arms" must be the most over-played song in the history of rock. 'tweens today even know that song! talk about longevity.

I'm a "Classic Journey" fan and when I was checking this site out, I noticed the topic on your greatest guitar players. Is Neal Schon in the running and if not, why?

Have any of you been to a recent concert and what was your opinion?

Journey is one of the greatest bands ever!  Steve Perry is the best vocalist of all time!  There is no way anybody could sing as good as that guy does!  I agree with atthistime as Neal Schon is one of the greatest guitar players ever.  Throw in Jonathan Cain, Steve Smith, and Ross Valory - these guys had it!  I'm not real into their newer stuff.  It sounds alright, but the classic lineup was best.

Favorite Journey tunes:
After The Fall
Stone In Love
Lights/Stay Awhile

Favorite Journey album:
Escape

I just recently saw Journey here in Philly with R.E.O. Speedwagon and Styx. All three were incredible. Great concert! All three bands were very energetic. Journey came on last and they were unreal. This is my first time seeing them and even though Steve Perry wasn't there it was still great to see them. You can tell a great guitarist when you see him live and Neil Schon is great. After seeing him live he is now one of my favorite guitarists. Absolutely amazing.  Can't wait to see them again.

Journey:  Great band, silly video game!   lol

However, it was the first video game that featured digital sound clips as opposed to MIDI type sounds.

I got a lot of mixed emotions about Journey. I love their music but it is very painful for me to listen to. The song "Faithfully" was mine and my ex's song. It was after my marriage when I was at a low point in my life, I used to listen to the Greatest Hits album A LOT. Now, when I listen to it, it kind of takes me back to that time. I still love many of the songs like,  "Wheel in the Sky" and "Seperate Ways".

I enjoy most of their early music and if I could go back in time to a concert, it would be for the "Raised On Radio" tour"

Their "Essential" c.d. great.

I know what you mean, Cat. Lot's of their songs bring back either wonderful or bittersweet memories. Some of the songs got me through some tough times. Perry's voice is everything that I've ever looked for in a singer.

:) I just saw Journey this summer too, and I have to say that I wasn't as impressed. Steve Augeri sounded great on their new album, but seeing him live was a dissapointment. Maybe he was having an off day, I don't know.

The rest of the gang is still awesome; Schon, Cain & Valory, and made the concert worthwhile. Although, we have local Journey tribute bands in the Chicagoland area that do a much better job.

I'll be seeing them on the 24th of this month. The tickets were a gift so what the heck. I have to see if all the rumors are true. The guys were so perfect together that I might find this group entertaining but nowhere near the magic of Perry/Journey.

Journey was HUGE when I was in high school!  You couldn't not like them!  Steve Perry has such a rich and powerful voice!

Their album Escape is my favorite.  It spawned such hits as "Don't Stop Believin'", "Open Arms" and "Who's Crying Now".  There is a song on it called "Still They Ride", which I thought should have made the Top 40.  Wonderful stuff!

Their follow-up album Frontiers was also excellent, with such sensational songs as "Faithfully" and "Send Her My Love".

I was very saddened when Steve Perry left Journey to pursue a solo career and have not been able to get myself to listen to Journey with 'that other Steve'.  :(

I fail to see what's not to like about a band like Journey.  Steve Perry and that unique, powerful voice.  One of my favorites is "Only the Young".

One of the best, and influential, bands in my teenage life.  Their powerful ballads still bring a lot of romance into my marriage.  ;)

A "Classic Journey" dvd is due out soon. It ought to sell like hotcakes. Hmmmmmmmmmm.Wonder where that expression came from?
Thanks for your opinions everyone. Journey seems to have that same effect on everyone. Great memories, great musicians and an irreplaceable voice.imo

I think my username says it all!! LOL But I am a true, faithful and diehard fan of Journey.  I have seen them in concert and they ruled the show.  And Steve Perry?? Oh man, is that guy hot or what?? His voice is very enchanting when he sings Open Arms..

I'm Steve Perry's most ardent fan.lol. That ought to start an argument. Most of his fans feel this way.

The song that gets to me the most is "Something To Hide" as his voice is just incredible. It's like a study in vocal control and precision and pure Perry.

I loved Journey!  They were one of my favorites back then.  I did see a behind the music show on them on VH1 awhile back and Steve Perry said he was pretty ticked off that they got back together and did not include him.  He was having some health problems at the time and could not tour so they replaced him.  He said the band should not have still called themselves Journey without him.  There is some real bad blood between them now, but I don't think about that when I hear their music, I just take a trip back in time to those incredible times.
